GTS2 + Win2k + Quake 3 Arena = really dark screens

Has anyone else had this problem? I installed my GTS2 card a few days ago under win98 SE and tweaked my graphics options and it looked great. Then I installed Win2k Pro today, updated the drivers for the GeForce2 and when I fired up Quake 3 Arena, it was horribly dark. I tried changing the brightness on my monitor and in the Direct3D video settings, but I don't want to have everything else glaringly bright just to be able to see the action in Quake 3. Anyone else have this problem? Any idea how I can fix it?

thanks peemo...got the info i needed.

still think it's bizarre that this problem crops up in 2000 and not in 9x...

just in case anyone else has the same problem:

Q. Quake 3 Arena looks very dark in Windows 2000. How can I fix it?
Type the following command at the console:

/r_ignorehwgamma 1
/vid_restart
and see if it helps.

You can also try the following:

/r_ignorehwgamma 0
/r_overbrightbits 0
/vid_restart
This should mean that the brightness slider works as usual.

If that doesn't help, try typing the following commands at the console:

/r_mapoverbrightbits x
/vid_restart
where x is a value from 2 to 3.
