GT's or GTX's (SLI??)

I need help on this one FAST!!!
I had a 7800GTX 512MB thing on back order and decided the hell with that and canceled it. I now have $760 to spend on a vid card.
My question is this. Should I get 2x7800GT's and SLI them. Or should I get a single 7800GTX. I wish I had an option of 2xGTX's but the budget is $760 and NO MORE. I have no breathing room on this one.

I figure that two GT's are nearly as fast as two GTX's and it isn't worth the extra $150 ($300 SLI) to get the GTX's. AM I RIGHT????
Is two GT's really one of the best price/performance setups for a high end gaming system? Will I even notice the difference between GT's and GTX's in SLI.

Please answer all of my questions, I need to know by tommorow.
Thanks a lot.

If you're gonna spend that much on graphics cards, at least get the best value for the dollar that you can.

In case you can't read between the lines I'm strongly suggesting you go with the GTs. 🙂

*EDIT* I thought you were considering either 2 GTXs in SLI or 2 GTs in SLI. I still stand by my reccomendation though. From what I understand the GTs are considerably faster than a single GTX and are a pretty good value to boot.

As many times as I want to. I just wanted a final straight answer before I spend a lot of $$$ on a graphic(s) card(s).

yep go with the two gts make them the evga kind that way ifyou want down the road you can up to two gtx or what ever the better nvidia card is at that time.

I think that's a rediculous amount of money to spend on a video card, I say you buy a $250 card to hold you over until the generation after next and spend the rest of that money on candy.

Is candy a hot ass escort 😛 You know, the hot single mom/milf on your block
that turns tricks while Timmy's at school 😀

And yeah man, get a pair of gt's. I thinking about getting my 2nd since they seem to
be getting cheaper by the week.

I would say go with the GT's, but unless you have a really big display I am not sure why you would need two in SLI. For any display that has a resolution of 1600 x 1200 or below, even a single GTX is a bit of overkill. But if you are one of the lucky few with a huge flatpanel like the Apple 30in CinemaWide, more power to ya.

Well, it depends on how you look at it. If you want to run F.E.A.R or CoD2 "even" at 12x10/32/4/8-16 (which are the settings I want to use for all games with my new system), one GTX will not be enough to maintain a really good frame rate at all times. Heck, even one GTX 512 is on the verge...

Before one can accurately answer your questions, you have to answer one as well:

What is the application (game, I presume) that you plan to run?

For example, if Age of Empires III is your bag, then look at the benchmarks for this game at the various online review sites. Dr. Thomas Pabst's site has a good comprehensive review of existing PCIe cards:
http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/12/02/vga_charts_viii/

Importantly, note that SLI does not consistently yield benefits and some top-end cards benchmark LOWER than their lesser counterparts from the same product line.

A dr. Thomas hasn't been at tomshardware for years now. And after reading the memory bencharks for 512 vs. 1 GB Vs. 2 GB, I gave up on the validity of their reviews altogether (instead of just ignoring the CPU ones), They didn't bench 1 GB half the time so all you really saw was 512MB vs 2GB which is retarded, and further drives the insane more memory is better debate. I am willing to bet their was almost no change from 1GB to 2GB but they don't put up the graphs half the time to prove it. Then all of a sudden they give out these ass conclusions which has no basis in any of the graphs and explanations earlier. In fact they keep mentioning Photoshop over and over again, including the conclusions (well maybe not directly), but without a single benchmark.
