Take a look at this review that compares the two in a few games

The 250 is actually faster (but not by much), particularly in older games. The 450 will give you DX11 along with Bitstreaming audio and bluray 3d support so if this card would get use as an HTPC as well as a gaming card than I would say go for the 450.

I have a 450 (although I don't play games on it except for quakelive which any video card from the last 5 years can run at max, its in my HTPC) but it does overclock very well.

If you could spring for a GTX 460 768MB that would give a much better experience in newer games.

What resolution do you play at?

Thanks all

i play at 1600x900

the frames only differ by 4 or 5 and the cost difference is big.

gtx 460 is out of my budget right now. its 420$

do 4-5 frames actually matter while playing latest games? eg: just cause 2,cod black ops, starcraft 2,hot pursuit 2,crysis warhead etc

isnt a gts 450 a lower end card?
why would you think that? this isnt even a tricky one as no part of the "450" would indicate a lower end card than "250". the gts450 is a better card than gts250 just as the gtx460 is a better card than gtx260.

what does the rest of your pc look like?

My rig is
Amd phenom x2 545 3ghz
4gb ddr2 ram
gx 550w coolermaster psu
gpu 1gb ati 4350 (worst thing i ever got)
msi 785gt -e63 mainboard

4 or 5 fps matters a lot if your average fps is around 30 or lower. If you're averaging 100+ it doesn't matter at all. What other cards can you get in india, maybe there is something better you can get for that kind of money.

current only till gts 450 are found in india if i want any other cards ill have to import them which will cost me even more.

Ati 5 series are also available but i do not like ati card at all...

all card below gts 450 are available like gt9800 , 8800 etc

The GTS 250 is a strange card.

I have one in my machine, and its been spectacular. I've been playing Black Ops regularly at 1920x1200, and according to the FPS counter I am getting 90 regularly. Thats with an i920 and 24gb of ram though, so who knows.

That said, my little GTS 250 is helping me destroy a lot of people and win a lot of FFA games quite well. 🙂

Wait, so you don't like ATi cards because you made the decision to purchase one of their low end products?

a gts250 averaging 90fps in Black Ops at 1920x1200? that certainly is not on high settings.

Well if the 9800 or 8800 series cards are cheaper you might want to get one of those. GTS 250 uses the same g92 as those so you'll be saving some money as performance is about equal. 5770 is a faster cards than the gts 250 (about on par with gtx 260) if they are availlable for a similar price I'd get one of those instead. 5750 is roughly on par with a 250 as they exchange blows.

i think this one flew right over your top-hat, Mr. Lincoln.
Idioms don't make any sense when they... don't actually work.

The GTS 450 is the better card. Generally faster, cheaper, and lower power.

Perhaps you've been saving that one-liner, but you should have saved it for a time when it actually applies.

I'd go for the gts 450. These cards overclock like mad. Stock clocks are 783 and factory overclocks are 900/950. They will mostly all do 900+ core and easily beat a overclocked gts250 and a 5770.

Where did you get these prices from?

For the price of Rs 14K, you can get a 1GB GTX 460

Street prices are 5%-10% cheaper than Ebay.. some one is trying to rip you off!!
