GTR vs Z06 on the street

Is this the same Gulf Of Oman from Battlefield 2? I jest but it's kind of disappointing for the GT-R to lose like that.

Everyone knows that for sheer speed you get the Z06; for quickness, a GT-R.
If you want something to beat both, get a ZR-1.

Something to beat everything? V-Spec?

I guess that depends on how you define quickness. But, even from a standing start on the street with the fancy launch control, it wasn't "quick" compared to the z06. I'll hold my reservations on the V-spec even matching the z06 in a straight line, let alone a ZR1 until they're available.

My only point is that for all the nutswinging that's been posted up not only here, but on tons of other forums about how superior the GT-R is to the Z06, on the street, with non-professional drivers, this is what the outcome will most likely look like.

Denial.

There's no reason to lie at this point, and I'm more than sure that we'll find more videos showing the same in a short amount of time.

wouldnt it be easier to drive a GTR since you have launch control, DSG, etc.?

Hasn't the GTR been released only in japan so far?
If the GTR being raced is from japan then there is a very good chance that it is limited to 112 mph.

Its automatic, you just mash the pedal and go... its not that hard.

This video is simply stating the obvious, the gtr is heavier and it lost its awd advantage since they raced from a roll. But from a dead stop the gtr would out launch the z06 and then the vette would eventually catch up at the end.

It's for sale in all markets. The limiter is only in Japan though.

I don't think weight matters as much once the cars are rolling. For example, if the heavier car had more power, it would still pull the lighter car since power is more of a determining factor at higher speeds. Of course there are the differences in gearing/engine characteristics, etc, but you get the idea...

Somebody feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken here...

I'm not surpised the Z06 won all the rolling starts, but it should have lost the standing start by a lot. The fact it won indicates either that the GTR driver is the worst in the world, or the press fleet was faster than what customers are getting. No real surprise there.

The GTR has not been released in all markets. Neither the US or Europe have any yet, and they are the two largest markets. The guy in the video probably has an Asian market import.

I guess Europe still hasn't received their cars, but the US definitely has.

One guy getting the ceremonial first one doesn't exactly constitute availablility. Whoever the owner of the Oman one is, clearly did not get it from the US.

I didn't mean it to be available to buy in the showroom and drive away the same day...

I just said it was released and available for purchase in accordance to the post I replied to.

Both cars are owned by the same guy. I don't know what "Gulf Spec" means, but if the Vette was modified, it probably would have been mentioned in the video, as it is unlikely this guy imported a GTR just to make an on line video to make it look bad against a Z06.

some of those guys don't bat an eye at a sub $100k car...they may buy it and never even drive it.

That said...

The Z06 is a relatively common car. It's sole design is to give the 'average joe' something formidable. The Z06 is a terror on most tracks.

These races are done from a roll, there is no telling if the other vehicles knew WTF they were doing. Also this kind of straight line stuff you can see some 19yo with a NOS'd / Turbo'd honda pull on the Z06 as well. It's not really hard to make any car go straight fast.

Most of the turbo Porsche guys are upping boost on delivery. Porsche for the most part subdues all their cars. Chevy let's the knuckles drag (most of the American power cars are like this...as well as very non-advanced...you get what you pay for).

Personally I'd pick the car that I didn't see often and go with that. If I wasn't happy with it's performance I'd change it.

Unless you are racing in classes, the sky is the limit.

I like the GTR, it's not my cup of tea though...nor is the Z06. Almost anyone pulling up in a hot Vette here in Palm Beach County gets labeled as a tool. If you keep it stock, then you do a lot better. I'd say someone in a riced out import would be more respected by chicks than a guy pulling up in a Z06 (just another corvette to most women) shaking the bar.

The GTR was made to turn, look at the latest TopGear (11x05), it did 1 minute 19.7 seconds on their track w/ the Stig.

The Z06 did 1 minute 22.4 seconds.
