this could be the best driving sim game. is anyone interested in playing?

i got the game (retail box, not steam) for $20 the other day. i have gtr2, and this is very similar, but with better graphics and some revision of the interface. they improved the menu digging and game browsing. the whole process is a little clumsy, and the car setup really needs an a/b comparison. steam really takes a toll on the game's start up time.

the game looks great, and runs very smoothly for me. the car physics are pretty good, with several camera angles - in the helmet, dash + wheel, nose, etc. unfortunately, i can get force feedback working with my logitech cordless rumblepad 2, something that did work with gtr2. you can set up any controller, and any car, eleventy-five different ways. there's a lot of tracks , and the few i've seen have not disappointed me in challenge or detail.

the game is difficult enough to deter me from any online races yet. you absolutely must know the track you're driving. the practice mode is pretty robust, and i'll be competitive online soon. server population is way low, with only a couple races going on despite a lot of hosts.

unknown fps, but very good on:
q9300
2x 9600gt oc
4 gb ram
vista ult 64
1920x1080, med/hi settings - i'll switch everything to hi soon.

I played this game, but I need a wheel before I install it again. Playing with analog input just ruins the whole game :(

I like sim racing btw, but I more or less HATE the tweaking. I mean, I don't know shit about tuning cars, like camber, breaking balance etc etc. And in this game you really need a good setup to even be competitive ...

I play it pretty often, although I'll be on a bit less given GTA4's release today... But over the past week I've been working on getting my Nordschleife times down, mainly in the R8 GT.

Given that there are mods to include M3 Challenge, GTR2, and GTL, this is really the only racing sim I need (unless I try iRacing.com). I never really 'got into' GTR or GTR2 as far as the actual racing went - I prefer road cars - although I did play GTL for quite a while. With this, thought, I finally tried competitive online play, and it's frankly pretty good :), not nearly as many idiots as you'd think.

As far as setups go, they help, but they're not completely needed. I've been plenty competitive in the GT class in the R8 with a stock setup (which, compared to the DBR9/Apollo/etc., is relatively slow). I suppose a better setup would get me another 5-10 seconds, though.

gtr2 was just like that - it's probably the same crowd. bozos are frowned upon. honestly, for the hour you put into a race, i'd rather not be taken out at turn 1 by someone that wants to play need for speed.
