Okay, I read and read... seems like the gto2 is the best bang for the $ out there if one wants to overclock. What nobody seems to talk about, besides that they OC'ed successfully is cooling. Is everybody overclocking without cooling modifications? It appears not, but nobody talks about it.

I want to get a gto2, how do I go about cooling the beast? I intend to unlock all 16 pipes and OC the video card. At what level of overclocking has the card pefromed excellent with "stock" cooling?

thanks for the help.

I got mine to 520mhz core and 600mhz memory with stock cooling. And that is 3dmark and gaming stable.
Forgot to add, load temperature doesnt go above about 66 degrees celcius.

I use stock, have it at 525/590 right now. If your going to change, I'd say artic cooling is the way to go, if you don't mind a dual slot cooler (but the x850xt came with one anyway).

The Zalman is definitely the best bang-for-buck cooler out there. But I think I'll have to go for the Thermalright V1 Ultra, simply because of space issues.

Under "application" it says it is for ATI X800 (R420)... does the R420 stand for the core? if so, I was under the impression that the GTO2 is R430? will it work? $9.99 is a good deal, no doubt.

The GTO2 is actually R480. I'd say skip the Silencer compatibility mess and pick up a Zalman. I used mine on a 6800GT and it cooled better than the NV Silencer it replaced because of a space issue. Once I get my new GTO2 from Newegg, it'll be on that card as well.

My friend has a gto2, and he's using a silencer 5 - it fits nicely. Not sure if the silencer 4 will fit.

Same here. I got the all copper one... before, with stock cooling, I was idleing around 43-45C and at load around 70-73.. after the Vf700 install, my idle dropped to a constant range of between 35-40.. depends on how hot my wife keeps the thermo up though..
Load temps dropped alot.. low 60's, when really pushing it...
This is on an unlocked, and overclocked GTO

My apologies, I didn't check closely enough. It does appear you would need the Silencer 5 Rev 2. Too many Silencer versions/revisions!

I just purchased the GTO2, I know im bringing up a semi-dead thread but how hard is the AC.5 installation. I have no problem putting a computer together but never changed a Vid Card cooler.

Just hear horror stories now and then of people putting a new cooler on and their card artifacting like crazy afterwards. I think Ill see how my GTO2 OCs first before I give it a shot.
