GTA4 with either GTX260 or GTX285

I have an e6600 dual core processor for now with a 21" 1680X1050 monitor. Would I notice much of an improvement going from the GTX260 to a GTX285? I know that the cpu will bottleneck but will it still help with GTA4 or other games?

I have to make a decision quickly on whether to spend an extra 100.00 for the 285.

Tks & Rgds

GTA 4 is cpu dependent and it needs lots of cores to run fine. I say, you won't notice even the slightest improvement going from 260 to 285, in GTA 4. In other titles, the situation might be different.

totally agree with error8
buy a 3ghz qc for gta4, your gtx260 is more than you need. For other games, well you would notice a difference if you go for 4-8x aa otherwise 1680 is too low...
try to wait a littl bit more til 4890 and gtx 275 come out(1-2weeks)...prices will surely drop!

That $100 would be better spent on the CPU, like mentioned. For that price you could drop an E7400 in it and get better framerates. Or better yet, spend a bit more to go quad if your motherboard supports it. Are you overclocked with your E6600? At stock it would be a huge bottleneck for the GTX260.

Don't do it, I went from GTX 260 to GTX 285 (For other reasons 🙂). GTA 4 didn't improve at all. My upgrade from a 3.86Ghz Q9550 to 3.80 Ghz Core i7 920 has made the biggest difference, it is so smooth (almost always above 60 fps) and so much better looking than the 360 version now that it is not even funny.
