I bought this the other night and it plays like poop. I'm dropping to 10-15fps and none of the tweaks in graphics seems to help. I have a feeling the answer is "buy a new cpu".

E8400, 4GB, ATI 6850

Is there something I can do other than buying it on a console?

It does really like quad cores. Did you get all of the patches though? There are some pretty massive performance improvements in those.

The rig in my sig and it still doesn't run super smooth. You seriously have to tweak the game a lot and like said before, you basically need a quad to get decent framerates.

I struggled to record at 1920x1080 60fps on an i7 950@4Ghz, 12GB DDR3, GTX 570@800Mhz.

I played GTA4 on PS3, and that was sh1t. Maybe try dropping your resolution to like 1280x720/1360x768, with med to low settings. Will still look better than the consoles.

I bought GTA4 days ago, but haven't tried it. I just wonder whether I can run this game smoothly. Maybe I should lower game settings.

I got it off Steam, so I assume so.

You need to make sure its patched. Try playing multiplayer. It'll prompt an update if it's outdated.

Otherwise, this is one of the few games that eats the living bejesus out of the CPU. Would have to be that.

It's a GFWL game so any time you load up the game it checks to see if it's updated.

Oh, I figured it was only multiplayer; now that I think about it, that does make more sense.

I decided to run the benchmark in game. With an i5 750 OC'd to 3.6 GHz and and most settings maxed out (except medium shadows and no night shadows, vsync off), CPU usage was 70%.

Hope this helps.

I tried 720P and turning off shadows. Not much help. Maybe I can OC a bit (3.2Ghz?), but I have a stock cooler. I notice the CPU is like 96% when I run the benchmark.
