GTA3 + WINXP + GEFORCE 4 = NO TEXT IN THE GAME

do you get "blocks" where the text should be? That's how mine was, and then I heard that installing this MS package, Q306676, would solve it. So, I installed that, and sure enough, text in the game.

I had this same problem and installed patch and now I get major fatal exception error. Cannot even get to menu screen 🙁

People have had a lot of problems with gta3 - seems they didnt do enough QA before releasing the game. It took me all day practically to get the game running. Even now I have some minor display issues (blocks around headlights, some borders on trees, etc)

I have that as well. The tree thing always happens around Salvatore's house.

Still an awesome game though.

I got GTA3 today, and had the same issue as listed in the first post. This MS package fixed it. Thanks, hudster!

Who reads the readme?

Pfft... I bet you actually read the directions first, when assembling something.

hehe.. I only read the readme AFTER I stumbled onto that problem. I figured there'd be something in the troubleshooting section and I was right.

when i couldn't see the menus my instinct kicked in and i downloaded the 1.1 patch (or something like that) and it fixed it. no problems since... not even ones mentioned in the FAQ

I installed the 1.1 patch and still had the problem. My fix: I downloaded the MS fix, extracted the one relavent file, and put it in the system32 folder, overwriting the older version. Fixed the problem peachily, and without any side effects.
