My friend has a 1ghz P3 dell laptop with 256MB of RAM and a 16MB GeForce2Go but he cant get GTA3 to run. So I took a look at it, but I didnt have much luck. When I run the game at the laptops native resoultion, which is 1152 by something, it tells me the game needs atleast 12MB of video memory to run. If I shrink the res down to 1024 it runs, but the menu text are just rectangles. Any idea whats going on? The system is running XP and I updated directx and the nvidia drivers.
thanks,

Also, dont expect the game to run well on the laptop.

I agree it doesn't even run satisfactory on my desktop. =(

i think i can help with this one, alot of ppl have been complaining about the poor performance during GTA 3. It seems to have little less to do with process speed, and much much more to do with memory. High memory is the key to sucess when running it and u shouldn't even bother with less than 256 mb of ram. video memory is also important as 32 mb would certainly be key to fixing resolution problems. another thing is that alot of labtops cannot take high color depth on high resolution, try decreasing the color depth and then running it on higher resolution, or turning down specific settings. hope this helps, and may god help us all cause even high end systems sometimes struggle with gta3. (i'm thinking it has several memory leaks during in gameplay where it doesn't free up memory used for old tasks so it gets slower and slower, thats just a programming issue though, nothin we can do about that.)
