GTA: San Andreas won't load

I totally uninstalled GTA: San Andreas, including deleting it from my registry. I've completely reinstalled it twice and when I double click on the desktop shortcut I get an hour glass for about a second and then it goes back to the cursor and nothing loads. I have no idea why it won't work. I did used to have a 7800GT but now run an X1800. I used Driver Cleaner Pro and removed everything associated with nVidia and still no luck.

Does anyone else have any recommendations? I'm dying to play this game again and it's driving me crazy!
