Hey all, i grabbed GTA IV from steam for $5 even though i own it on PS3. Anyways when setting up graphics i cant seem to set the draw distance past 62 as it says i dont have enough video memory, even though running there own benchmark at that draw distance only uses 60-70% of my video memory, and i monitored my video memory while actually playing the game and it never went over %70. So how do i manually raise the draw distance over 62?

I believe some of the texture modifications force this distance up, if your interested in that type of thing that is.

VisualIV 1.51 seems to work very nicely, though your using a lot more memory supporting the higher resolution textures as well.

I just wanted it maxed because when i played it on my PS3 and had a fast car/bike and was topped out for speed down a main street the cars would appear so close to me i could not avoid them, they would litterally just appear 30ft infront of me, i want to avoid that on the PC.

There's a zero percent chance you'll get a high draw distance and a playable frame rate on your system. This game is poorly optimized (on all systems, mind you. Looks and runs like shit on my Xbox 360).

Im actually getting around 55-60FPS, and it looks better than my PS3 by a fair bit. I guess ill see if the max draw distance it will let me set(62) is enough, its alot farther than the PS3 for sure, hopefully i can drive at full speed and not have cars spawn right infront of me.

Was not my experience with a core 2 quad at 3.6ghz and an 8800gt. I have solid frame rates (above 30 fps) and pretty high draw distances.

I find as long as shadows are turned off you can play with high setting no problem. however the draw distance thing is driving me insane, im looking into that post above so i can manually edit the config settings. Although playing it for a bit i noticed that the 62 it will let me set might be far enough, have not got far enough into the game though to steal a really fast car/bike and test it out though.

The game uses around 1.5GB of video memory on my SLI 2GB GTX 285s when I set the view distance to 100% with everything else maxed.

Yeah thats about what i figured from my testing, so i should be able to set it to 75 or so with my 1GB. But i cant.
