GTA IV DLC delayed

GTA IV downloadable content delayed

Rockstar Games' parent company today announced that the first of two pieces of downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV will miss its release estimate and now won't be available until between November 1st 2008 and January 31st 2009. The dates represent Q1 in the Take Two's fiscal year 2009, with the only reason for the delay being that it provides "better balance" to the company's release schedule.

The episodes are exclusive to the Xbox 360 version of the game, which the company also announced as having sold around 8.5 million units to date.

Financial Guidance

The Company is providing guidance for the third fiscal quarter ending July 31, 2008 and fourth fiscal quarter ending October 31, 2008 and is raising its guidance for the fiscal year ending October 31, 2008 as detailed below. Fiscal 2008 guidance reflects the release of the first installment of episodic content for Grand Theft Auto IV for Xbox 360 in the first quarter of fiscal 2009 instead of the fourth quarter of fiscal 2008 in order to provide a better balance in Take-Two's release schedule.

They are trying to stave off EA so they will space out their earnings to keep it profitible but I thought MS already gave them a 50,000,000 advance for that stuff.

If it comes out in Novemeber, that'll be right after Saints Row 2 comes out (assuming it isn't delayed)

big eff up. should have been out max 2 months after the game when everyone still cared. by then ill be playing something else and wont care. im about out of the GTA mode.

Bummer, but I will still care and get it. I still play GTA3 and GTA3:Vice City and GTA:San Andreas regularly. Im a GTA junkie. 🙂

Fine by me. It'll give me more time to finish the games I already have. I like GTA IV, but I'm going through it VERY slowly.

If it comes out before Christmas, I think it will be OK. After Christmas, maybe not so much.

Who knows though as this level of DLC (massive for a massive game) hasn't been done before on the consoles.

I don't see a problem with the timeline. Rumors and speculation have the DLC episodes providing hours upon hours more of gameplay, so I'd rather see it 8 months later rather than 2 or 3 months later. Too much of a game in a short time frame is a bad idea. If it comes out late this year, early next year, it won't be any different than the numerous expansion packs that have released on the PC over the years.

Honestly, this holiday is so packed already so I don't see why they would want release it around Christmas. Even though its GTA4, they better release something really awesome for the DLC in order to compete with the rest of the lineup.
