Is it just me or has performance gotten worse with each patch?
I have had to turn off more settings to get my desired frame rate.

feature creep and they added a bunch of obfuscation crap to make it harder to hack which didnt help and basically punished clean players.

I capped fps at 60 and stopped downsampling because it was crashing.

Great game but so many cheaters now that it's becoming a bit of a joke. Have to stick to private sessions from now on. Do Rockstar actually ban anyone for cheating? There's so much cheating that it seems to be a free-for-all.

Latest patch fixed pretty much all the stuttering i had and my fps improved on a i3 3220 and gtx650.Smoother then back in April honestly.Only time i get fps drops is when hoards of cops are engaging me and its close quarter gun fights.

Even did a resolution bump from 1366x768 to 1600x900 and its still smoother then before. Do have to keep to low/minimum settings but a 650 isn't exactly a power house either so its fine.

My son, an avid GTAV fan on the 360 has been BEGGING me to let him purchase GTA on the PC. The problem is, I am not overly sure that his PC will run it.

He's running:
AMD A8 7600 using IGP
4GB RAM

Even at low settings is he going to be able to run it? He's not OVERLY concerned with the graphics quality etc he just wants to play with mods etc.

I'm guessing the RAM is going to kill him more than anything.

I got it to run on my asus laptop with intel HD graphics. It runs with everything turned to min and looks like ass. the CPU is an i7 but the graphics are horrid.

Also got it running on my Dell Venue 11 Pro. It is actually nearly playable at decent graphics settings.

So..... "maybe" is still the answer?
How much RAM in the machine of yours?

This is where the old days of having demos made the most sense -- I want to TRY the damn game before I buy it!!

4gb Ram WILL be a problem. In fact it will be THE big problem. Don't bother installing it with 4GB of ram. You will get constant pagefile accesses and basically an unplayable slideshow.

That is what I thought. That sucks.

they need to lower the price. the DRM preventing account transfer is unethical and violates both fair use and First Sell doctrine

So a huge publishing company is breaking the law without doing any due diligence and opening themselves up to possibly millions of dollars worth a damage? Come on - do your homework!

Fair Use and First Sell Doctrines are enforced in the most narrowly of senses. Fair use means you can copyright material if its in use in a classroom setting, for learning purposes, or is a parody.

First Sell Doctrine has exemptions thanks to lobbyist from such publishers as the one that made GTA. The rental of computer programs and sound recordings is prohibited.(http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/the-first-sale-doctrine.html)

FYI, upgraded my son's PC to 8GB and it runs WAAAAY smoother. Still low settings (no FAA is killer -- tons of jaggies) and it looks better than the 360 version.

Game really is much better then GTA4,even with a low framerate it feels smooth.

Got a old rig with a stock Q6600,6gb of ram and a oced 1gb ddr2 9500gt@685 core and 800x600 low the gpu only delivers about 27-41fps but it feels twice as smooth as GTA4 ever did.The E5200 before it wow, useless of course with its 16-25fps and constant stutter.

Damn impressed with this game to say the least.

I remember going from an E6600 to a Q6600 right after GTA4 was released and it made a huge improvement, and even more so after a decent overclock.

Haven't even wanted to touch GTA4 since i played GTA5 lol. It's been uninstalled since GTA5 with no regrets.

Borrowing my buddies gtx970+ psu tomorrow, see what frames i could pull from this cpu.:)Maybe drop in like a 750 ti when i can afford it but not sure if the motherboard is compatible with the 900 series. It's old lol.

oh nice

my suggestion to get the max out of that 970 + your cpu would be to run mostly max settings with 4x msaa + txaa and then lock it to 30fps

should run very smoothly

I know from experience with another rig,the higher the settings the harsher it becomes for lower end processors like the i3 chips.Easily lose half your frame rate from low to ultra lol.

Guess i will report my findings tomorrow.:)
