newer install of Vista Ultimate x64 sp1.
latest Nvidia drivers for video

just installed this game, when i run it, Rockstar socialclub asks to join/login. i click login and it crashes, says an error occured and it must close. thats it, the game never runs.

what do i do?

i know quite a few among the forums are playing it ok. i think if i can keep socialclub from crashing, i'll be fine. as i assume it is needed to run in order to play the game right?
i'd hate to do an entire reinstall of everything just to test if it works then or not. but i'm about to rage apesh#t i'll tell you that.

Check out this thread. It's got a very detailed list of problems and most have solutions.

http://forums.steampowered.com...howthread.php?t=762088

It's on the Steam forums but the fixes apply to all retail and Steam versions. I'm still working on getting my Steam version to run. They just posted a solution to the specific problem I've been having so I'll see what's what when I get off work.

Good luck!

I can't even install the damn game. It gives me error saying, "System is not compatible with %P" I was like... is that 1337 for XP? 😵

Weird. I'll have to update vista I guess... Maybe I am not Service Pack 1 yet... I have been trying to avoid updates as they only cause more problems, they never fix.

I don't think you have to join the social club to play in the single player mode.
I don't have first hand knowledge of this yet since I'm having activation issues. Paid $45 and can't play the damn thing yet.
Might be 'cause I tried to install it on a D drive? Or maybe because I didn't have SP 3 for XP installed. I'm still working on the issues.
Should have waited a few months for other people to work the bugs out - I'm not that computer savvy.
@#*&*#%%@% Rockstar...

SP3 is horrible horrible horrible! I have had *NOTHING* but problems with it. I know probably 98% of people have none, but on my PC = problems! My GF's pc = problems! And a company I consult for = problems!

SP3 sucks and GTAIV is buggy as hell, sounds like a winning combination to me 🙂

I've avoided SP3, but tomorrow I'll give it a go. I wanna play GTA 4...
I don't know if there's anything not to like about SP3, but up until now I never seen any reason to try it. Doesn't add support for any hardware I use like SP2 did. All the security updates I installed one at a time as they became available. No need for it until now.

the game runs fine for me. i'm running vista x64 ultim. this morning it complained about windows game live needs an update....

finally got it to run, but now the keyboard controls dont work ingame, only the mouse. I can max out everything but view distance as it wont let me, but the intro ran smooth. just had no control...what a pos

It has not been a good week for PC fans of the Grand Theft Auto series. The latest title in the open world crime action series, Grand Theft Auto IV, has been plagued with bugs since its release. It's gotten so bad that folks who purhased and downloaded the game via Valve's Steam service can now ask for a refund, something that Valve rarely offers.

Meanwhile, Nvidia has released a new beta graphics driver for its GeForce products for not just GTA IV but also for SLI improvements in Left 4 Dead and issues with World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King. The 180.84 beta drivers are in Windows XP and Vista versions (both 32 and 64-bits). Thanks FiringSquad. An ATI driver update is expected next week.

Quite simply.....despite the bugs, the game is great. I love GTA4! I want to be a Republican Space Ranger too! 🙂

It COULD HAVE BEEN a great game.

Anyone planning on using a controller other than the 360 controller may as well give up.

It requires way to big of a PC. I couldnt beleive my 5000+, 4670 Combo (that can play crysis decently) struggled to play at minimum settings, yet the "Auto Config" recommends my max res with medium settings.

Unless your running a very high end card, this game is almost useless.

I dont see how it can be rated so high.

Its definitly not a PC Gaming life saver, since the majority of people won't have the GPU to play it.

>>> running good enough here using a 7950 GT 512mb, athlon x2 @ 2.6ghz, 3gb memory, winXP
i'm running below 1024x768 however, but doesn't bother me much.

sure it could be much smoother if I used a quad core, but for now it is good enough, not like I truly need it to be very smooth as with other FPS games (quake & crysis)

Note: this relates to steam version

I was getting secuLauncher 2000 error and then i verified my game cache integrity and it stopped doing it

dont know if you are using steam version tho
