Crossfired ATI Radeon 4850s (1 GB each).

Any fixes for this? It's getting fucking ridiculous now. I can't even finish some missions because of it. it seems to be happening more often and sooner than it used to.

I defragged my box last night after a couple crashes, today no crashes in GTA4-completely anecdotal evidence of it making a difference though. I did find on one pc it ran better after I uninstalled FFDshow though.

There's a few workarounds from what I've seen, everything from lowering textures and/or viewing distance to adjusting virtual memory with a commandline.txt document. The one that I've found seems to be the most effective is disabling the video editor so that its not constantly caching replays.

Yep it works well, just wish there was a way to turn it off permanently as it re-enables itself each time you restart the game.

What are your graphical settings at? Of the total 1GB, how much is that screen reporting you'll need to run it at your current settings?

i don't know the exact settings but it's a little under 900 MB. It still did it even if I lowered it. haven't had the problem since disabling that video clip thing.
