If a 10+ tracks & 76 cars racing game is a demo for you, then most racing games are demos as well (GRID, NFS, DiRT, etc.)...

GT5P is an hybrid between beta test and demo. It offers the fans a sneek peek at what's to come in GT5 but also allows Polyphony Digital to test their online servers/system, correct bugs and improve physics (the new Pro Physics are awesome and blow everything (on console) out of the water).

For GT fans, this game is a must, provided you can find good guys to race with online.
 
You do not pay for a demo in the way we understand it, so GT5P is not a demo. GT5P is just an appetizer, w/ GT5 being the main course.
