GT5 Prologue

arcenite

Looking to get back into a console racing game, always enjoyed the GT series.

Checked out GT5 Prologue, ~60 CARS??? WTF???? The best part about GT2 was the 10 million cars that they offered.

Am I missing something?

It's GT5: Prologue, not the full game.

So... If I buy the game now... for ~$30 on ebay, I will be expected to pay another ~$50 when the 'full' game comes out?

You missed the Target clearance where it's selling for $10. Download the game save from gamefaqs and you'll have all 76 cars instantly.

Why buy from eBay when you can download it from PSN or buy it at other legit places for the same amount or less?

I only bought it because they had a Dual Shock 3 with it for $20 more at the time. It's not bad but it's pretty limited. Just a giant demo. Not the first time Polyphony has released a prolouge title though.

Because I had no idea I could do this... My step brother is the one that plays the PS3 and I'm bored of FPSs so I figured I'd change it up a bit. (referring to getting it from PSN)

Edit: Would GT5 Prologue game saves work with GT5? That is, would any of my work be lost when I purchase the new game?

Nobody knows if there will be any crossover from GT5P to GT5, but from what I understand, there was some crossover from GT4P to GT4 over in Japan a few years ago. So the answer is "most likely" but "nobody knows".

What? You don't like having to pay to beta test a game? That's how I saw it, so I never bought GT5P even though I've owned all the other US released GT games. The graphics look nice, but that's about it.

You're a quick one.

It's my opinion. I can comment on it if I want. You don't have to agree.

Polyphony Digital named the incomplete game, GT5:Prologue for a reason. It's a preface, an introduction for the complete title. They did this before GT4 as well. You are, in fact, testing the game for Polyphony Digital whether you realize it or not. That are aware of and are listening to feedback from the GT5😛 community.

You may as well get Prologue since the full GT5 will never be released. I mean all Polyphony ever does is announce delay after delay.

I said it was obvious you never had played because you SAID SO. I didn't try to hide that, even saying you were not "self-admittedly" qualified, so don't try to be clever.

Sure, you have an opinion, but it's based on a game you have never played, so why give it? You don't know what you're talking about, and you're not shy in letting it be known. GT5P is not beta testing nor is a demo. There are 70+ cars and 6 tracks with different configurations for each. There are plenty of stages with varying levels of difficulty including same-make races, plus online and arcade modes. There is plenty to do for your $30. You can easily get 30-40 hours of playtime out of this game, if not more if you're a huge fan. That's a lot more time than you can get out of a lot of $60 games.

If you want to say that it's a beta, then why not say that people who bought Halo 3 are stupid because it was just beta testing for Halo: ODST? Or any other tandem of games in existence?

If you are only going to buy 1 racing game for the next five years then wait for GT5, otherwise, GT5P has been out for what, almost two years? It is more of a full game than most racing games these days.

Comparing GT5: Prologue and GT5 to two games in any other series makes no sense. GT5: Prologue has always been known to be a small subset of the content in GT5. It's really not a distinct game in the series, it's a preview of the next game in the series.

I don't doubt that they have been improving the game based on feedback from GT5: Prologue, so in a sense you could look at it as a sort of beta test. And it is a very small subset of the content in the full GT5, so on the scale of demo to full game it's much closer to demo (though the price is much closer to a full game).

But really it's neither a beta test nor a demo. It's a way to get diehard fans to pay $100 for a game that costs $60. It's a way to generate revenue during development.

Not that I necessarily disagree with your analysis of GT5😛, but the Halo analogy is flawed. People who bought Halo 3 and received beta testing for ODST still got the entire Halo 3 game.

Just use a better analogy next time.

Gran Turismo Mobile for PSP is coming out in October along with the PSPGo. It has 700+ cars if I remember correctly. I'm pretty sure that they will use the same cars for Gran Turismo 5.

Nope, just calling bullshit when I see it. Seriously, tell me why you are talking shit about GT5P when you admittedly have never played it?

No, my analogy was good. GT5P is a game that will give you hours upon hours of play time. People calling it a beta test or a demo is really doing the game disservice, especially when it came out at least a year and a half before the full game will release.

By saying GT5P is just Sony's way of getting people to beta test the full GT5 game is no better than saying any other game that has a sequel is a way to get people to beta test the next successive game in the series. GT5P is not a beta or demo, it was a full retail disc. Sure, it was aimed at a specific subset of gamers, but that doesn't make it any less of a full game.

It's just annoying when people judge a game based on absolutely nothing while announcing at the same time that they don't know what they are talking about.

The game is more of a demo than anything. It's a beefed-up demo, sure, but it's still just a taste of what is to come. That is what a demo is.

It's not a beta. Polyphony isn't accumulating data from it as far as I'm aware. But it's not a complete game, either. You can play it for hours, sure. But I can play the Madden demo for hours, too - and ultimately it would be a very similar/gutted experience.

GT5 and GT5P aren't 2 separate games. GT5P is a chunk taken out of GT5. Everything that exists in GT5P will be in the full, retail game. Just because GT5P is fun and can be played for hours doesn't make it any less of a taste of the actual game to come.

Your Halo analogy wasn't a good one.

There actually was a GT5 demo. I think it was GT HD or something like that. That was 1 track with like 10 cars. Thats a demo. GT5P is not.
