Isn't A0 stepping usually first? If this is indeed A1 then it would have taped out before? Or that site has been misinformed.

Or this could be the second.

Wasn't it supposed to be out by the end of the year? The article seems to think they had planned a launch in 4th quarter. Wonder what these will be priced at initially? My new build will be in January next year so hopefully this, and any new ATi card, will have been out long enough to drop somewhat in price.

Considering that tapeout is entirely an internal milestone (actually for a fabless company it is the last milestone which is entirely internal) the only practical way for Charlie to know that it hasn't taped out is for someone on the inside to tell him as much.

Which begs the question, knowing Charlie likes to fill his anti-NV blogs with all manner of vile and loathing towards Nvidia, what type of employee is going to go to Charlie and give him legitimate insider info on something as critical to the health of the company as their tapeout deliveries?

I really see only two plausible scenarios here, (1) charlie's sources for his tapeout info is really not in the circle of knowledge as needed to be credible to begin with, or (2) charlie's source of the info actually is an NV insider who is playing a dirty trick on charlie telling him what he wants to hear so he can write his nasty blog only to have yet another "dancing in the aisles" article for folks to laugh at for the next year when the opposite comes true regarding the tapeout situation.

I just can't accept that someone on the layout team at NV, drawing a paycheck and hoping to keep their job, would go to the trouble of giving Charlie the ammo he wants to make mockery of NV.

If they were talking about issues with milestones post tapeout, A0 silicon debug, leakage issues, yields, packaging problems, then I could convince myself that there are enough third-parties in the loop at that point that a depraved soul would find humor in giving another depraved soul the ammo they want to make mockery of a company like NV. But tapeout is too early in the process for third-party to be involved. So I don't buy it.

Yeah option one entails all manner of inanimate objects as sources, as well as the voices in his head, his mother, his priest, his dog, and whatever he thinks the aliens are communicating thru the snow pattern on his TV at 4am...

Hell, PCI express 2.0 slot has just been released and this card promises to fill it up already. :) If all these rumors come up true, then this will be the next 8800 GTX. I'm really looking forward to the end of this year.
