pro, xt, or xtx for the 1950???

really though that is like asking which is faster between a sloth or a turtle.

both of those cards equally suck for modern gaming and will likely not be very playable for newer games at 1440x900. I would pick the gt 220 since it will use much less power while giving about the same performance.

Toyota is correct, but you could pick up a HD5670 or even HD5570 for around 50 to 75 dollars and have much superior performance to either of those.

I have a spare GT220 I could stick into an Athlon64x2 2.5ghz to see if BFBC2 is playable....

I would pick the GT220 from a power consumption/driver (x1900 is going to need to use the "legacy" drivers) standpoint. I would be prepared for some pretty low quality settings, but things should be playable given you have plenty of CPU. Starcraft 2, for example, is playable on a 4550 DDR3 @ 1280*1024 low/medium settings and the GT220 is much faster than that.

Seriously, I would hop on the FS/FT forums and get a GTX 260 for ~$50 and call it a day. It may not have all the features/dx levels but it has a ton of performance. It doesn't sound like an up to date feature set is high on your needs list.

Stumpy, you need to keep folding! No distractions! :p Speaking of which, why aren't you getting the 2k ppd out of that 220??? :D

Are you sure the HD5570 is faster than the X1950XT? The price does matter and often dictate what the performance will be. The X1950XTX (single card) was a $500 card... Do you have graphs of both showing head 2 head?

a 5570 is easily a little faster than an x1950xt. the x1950xt and 7900gtx were basically tied and even an 8600gts can match a 7900gtx in newer games.

I can vouch for this. I thought that a x1950 was going to be a solid card even a couple years ago for a guy at a LAN party... yeah, even mid range cards then were handling the games better. You need shading power these days.

I paid good money for a 6800U but I know it would be nearly worthless in modern games.

You can get a GTS 250 for less than $30 @ TigerDirect that will absolute curb stomp it.

And as I mentioned before, you don't get current drivers for the x1900 series, it's time to move on.

Plus we are getting to the point where games are DX10+ and we know where the x1900 series stands on that!

^ Does this mean the X1950XT will be faster than HD5570 on old games that are not DX10+ based?

tbh I regret choosing that name. I was new to forums and just chose that name at random. I have never even owned a Toyota. lol

the OP really needs to get a better card than either of those. why have such an otherwise nice pc but hamper it with a super slow gpu?

Hah! I have no machine to put it in! All my PCI-E Machines are filled (GT240, GT430, HD6850) and the only other machines I have are AGP! So the GT220 just sits there.... (was replaced with the GT240)

I doubt it but there might be a rare case where it could happen.

Using 4x-5x the juice in the process? Perhaps!

If it has only 256 MB of frame buffer that is even further damning.

He's not asking whether his Windows 98 machine should have a Voodoo 5 or a Geforce 2 GTS for retro gaming, it looks like the games he wants to play could include recent releases. The theoretical performance of an unsupported card is largely besides the point.

I guess that is acceptable :p

Thanks for all the reply's. I decided to go with the x1950 and I made a mistake its not a xtx but a GTX.

Solved all the hassle and snagged a Hd6850 on ebay for 140$ :whiste:

Funny story actually, I am buying a i5-2500k with a 300-400$ card and building around it for bf3, but now it seems I can play it fine ( once I get the 6850 ) So i'll happily play that till income tax time where I plan on building a nice pc.

Hah! Nice! :)

Indeed, you should be fine with your current rig + 6850. For all the talk of 2500k this and Bulldozer sucks that, it is a remarkably good time to be a capable rig with parts of your choosing. Would the 2500k be faster than your x6 in games? Probably. Would you notice? Maybe.
