GT-R driver dies, injures 14 others

hit the steering wheel with his chest mebbe. one of my moms friends died like that on a harley, he was side swiped by some jackhole passing a car behind him, the guy locked on his brakes and took the harley with him. the jolt made him slam into the instrument panel, killing him almost instantly, and severing his wifes left leg at about the knee. it was a freak death, but i will always remember it.
 
Well, hitting a bus head on is pretty much like hitting an immovable object. The GT-R and the driver's body absorbed all of that deceleration in probably a matter of feet from whatever speed he was travelling. I'm not surprised that he's dead. That car is totalled.

That would answer it right there. Time is of the essence in emergency medicine. 1 Hour is the golden time limit. Even with airbags and seatbelts, the injury could easily be fatal. Remember, busses don't tend to move backwards in collisions so for example a 70mph average speed collision on both sides means effectively a stop from 140mph into a wall for the GTR. A humam body decelerating from 140mph to 0 in a few milliseconds is going to be fatal even if the safety cell holds up. Internal bleeding, c-spine injuries and brain trauma become prime candidates at that point. Things that don't immediately become fatal can be very fatal if left untreated for hours.

IIRC, that's been disproven. Not that it makes the collision much more surviveable...

Unless he was dead when they arrived on scene, and there was no longer a critical rush to get the body out?

Also, the bus wouldn't form a wall to create a 140 MPH collision.

no, that's for cars of similar mass, where everyone comes to a stop where they impacted.

presumably the bus going the other way kept going for some distance. so the gtr went 70 to 0 to -50 or something in a hurry.


edit: dale earnhardt's crash didn't look all that bad either.

No, the scenario I responded to is equivalent to a 70mph crash into a fixed barrier.

This crash, we don't know for sure, but we know you don't simply add the speeds together. The bus is way bigger, but was undoubtedly moving way slower, so it actually probably evened out in the end. The impact was most likely the same as the GT-R hitting a fixed barrier at whatever speed it was traveling.

I saw a chick when airbags first came out that had 3 months in a hospital due to hitting a parking wall in front of her curb at low speed, sent her necklace and charms deep into her neck.
