I've found someone willing to let go of their m11x r2 for cheaper than
most, but from what I've found the GT335M & i7 640UM are low on the
benchmarks. Maybe I'm reading them wrong. Whats everyone's opinion on
them playing newer games at medium settings?

Even at 1366x768 I don't think you'll get good frame rates at medium settings in new games. I have a better GPU (9800M GT) and it doesn't fare so well, my CPU is also faster (2.48GHz 3MB).

You'll probably want GDDR5 GTX560M or GT650M and a decent dual core to play newer games well.

I was able to play Skyrim fairly comfortably on medium settings with my R1 M11x, which also had the GT 335m. And that was with a ULV C2D at 1.7GHz! Aside from the most graphically demanding games, I could usually play games on medium settings. The M11x is an awesome machine so long as you are willing to compromise a bit on pure performance!

Interesting...I thought if I tried Skyrim on this thing it would explode and the HDD would eject itself just before the giant fireball. I've got 96 "cores" at 500MHz vs the 72 "cores" at 400MHz and my CPU is noticeably faster. But I honestly haven't tried running that game on here, perhaps its not as intensive as I thought. But simpler games like Defense Grid can lag while averaging 20-30FPS totally maxing this thing out. I think the most demanding game I have tried would be Warhammer 40K 2...and I've gotta go low settings to make it playable. Same with Civ5 (DX9). I think the Witcher was tried on here once or twice...not a bad game but I think it was uninstalled cause it didn't run good.

Some games do fine, one that's used allot on here is League of Legends.

I think it partly depends on price, if you can get it under $500 it may be worth considering...but you can definitely get new laptops at $600 that are faster.

Why would you buy a laptop with a 335M in it?

Anandtech was doing some review on the Alienware M11x R3 (which has a 540M)
But also compaireing it to older laptops one of which had a 335M in it.

First.... 335M is not that much faster than the Intel IGP HD3000.
The Llano (A8-3500M) IGP is a good bit faster than the 335M (~15-25% depending on game).

A laptop with a Trinity/Llano or Ivy Brige's IGP are probably gonna be faster (and use less power).

Brand new laptop for 449$, that has a IGP ~15-25% faster than the 335M.

Well that is refurbed...but yeah, new something like that is $600. You can get an A10 version which is even faster for under $700, or a faster SNB with DGPU on sale around $600.
