i tried to turn on my 360 the other night and was greeted by an entirely green and frozen screen. not even the splash screen came up. i didn't have my headphones on so i'm not sure if there was any audio. i tried power cycling a bunch of times, unplugging the power from the back of the 360, unplugging the av plug, switching inputs on the tv, putting in a dvd instead of a game, putting in no disc. same thing.

i did a little research and this is apparently a precursor to RRoD. :(

tonight i'm going to try powering up w/o the HDD. if that doesn't work, it looks like i'll soon be making a call to MS to await a box.

anyone else have any experience with GSoD?

UPDATE: i switched the AV switch to TV and video now works again. switching back to HDTV and there is no video. does this mean that the AV cable is the culprit, or is there the possibility that the vid card is damaged?

UPDATE 2: i borrowed a friend's cable and everything worked so i went out and bought a new vga cable and now everything is back to normal :)

Just one of the many faces of 360 death. Mine was a blue screen with white lines. RRoD within the week.
Call now. :(

Same thing as always: if you RRoD (and this'll be an RRoD soon, no worries), three year warranty, with a new 90 day start for everything else.

It's a shame that they're not replacing the old ones with Falcons so that we stop reading about these problems over and over.

but are they requiring a receipt and all that good stuff?

my xbox has been freezing quite a bit lately that is fixed with a restart, however, i'm wondering if i'm on the way to a RRoD

i dont have my original receipt nor remember at all when i bought it

Worst case, they'll go with the manufacture date. That should still be within 3 years, for the most part.

do i have to wait until RRoD before i call? ie - will they not do anything while i still only have the GSoD? i would hate to have to keep restarting my 360 in its unusable state until i finally RRoD.

Just tell them that every time that you turn on the 360 you get that GSOD, even without an actual RROD code hopefully they'll still treat it as a RROD. My 360 did something similar before it bit the dust. Luckily for me I didn't have to wait for a box I just took it to Best Buy, swapped it for a Falcon and swapped the hard drives.

Its quite possibly the culprit. Its pretty cheap to pick up an AV cable for the 360, just head on over to Best Buy, Walmart or wherever, pick one up and see if you can use the 360 when its switched to HDTV. If it still doesn't work then the video card is the culprit.

i'm going to try to snag my neighbor's av cable just to test or my bro-in-law's. if it does indeed turn out to be the culprit i think i'll just go and by a VGA cable instead.
