GSM digital phone providers around Atlanta? T-Mobile?

My GF's mom lives in Dawsonville. Her Cingular phone doesn't provide any reception in her house. My Canadian Fido GSM phone works fine in her house however, with signals from Powertel.

I'm told that T-Mobile owns the Powertel towers.

So she's now interested in a GSM phone, partially for reception at her house, and partially because she wants to be able to use the phone in India.

How good is T-Mobile? How is their reception in and around Atlanta?
