I'm looking at either Ripjaws or Sniper.....I know Ripjaws is more widely spoken of, but the Sniper looks like it has a lower profile heat spreader. All the timings, speeds, etc appear identical. Is it likely the same memory underneath two different external designs?

And thinking along those lines, should I pay $5 less for the Gskill "Value Series" which also has the same performance numbers listed but no heat spreader at all? (maybe its nice to have the spreader only because it allows you to handle the outside without touching the actual chips......)

There are several "Ripjaws" DDR3 variants. Which one are you asking about?

I was just looking at DDR3 1600 Ripjaws vs DDR3 1600 Sniper. Both are 1.5v and 9-9-9-24-2N. Both are same price at Egg. Leads me to believe its the same stuff with a different heat spreader, but that was why I was asking. I'd prefer the Sniper due to low profile, but I've heard MUCH more about Ripjaws and virtually nothing about Sniper.

My guess would be it's the same, just without the "jaws" for lower profile. And without them you can't very well call it ripjaw, hence the new name "sniper". Course you could ask their customer support what the difference is.
