Well it looks like GSC World is back in business after shutting down in 2011. Sadly it isn't a new STALKER game that is being released, but releasing a newer iteration of their older RTS IP in the name of Cossacks 3.

Hopefully they do well with this game and it brings some confidence back into their company, they don't have a whole lot of competition in the RTS market so they should be able to create some buzz if it reviews well.

Honestly I'm hoping this goes well for them since I want to see a S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2. Having just recently finished Call of Pripyat(3rd in the series) I could see a lot of potential with where this franchise was going. They improved the series quite a bit over the previous games, and a huge open world single player experience from them would be amazing.

Looks like a potentially very good RTS.

I still want another S.T.A.L.K.E.R. though. Remake SHoC with the original development plan and I'll die happy.

I loved S.T.A.L.K.E.R. but I think the premise is about worn out. Perhaps if this is a success (RTS doesn't interest me but hopefully it will be successful) then perhaps they can return to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. world and take it in another direction, or do a similarly immersive new FPS/RPG IP.

I think the premise of "post-apocalyptic" is worn out, but IMO, that's what made S.T.A.L.K.E.R. so different.

It isn't post-apocalyptic. The focus is on the Exclusion Zone, but the rest of the world is largely unaffected.

There's no magic virus, meteor, earthquakes or other typical cliches. It's the story of a group of Soviet scientists who began human mind research in the area, eventually joining their own minds to a hive consciousness in an effort to bring world peace through mind control (which, as it turned out, was a pretty bad idea).

It's more of a science-fiction game than anything, with an interesting story component. The problem with the games - - they don't really convey it well at all. Ask most people who played through SHoC what the game was about and they would say "zombies and mutants." Most people will tell you it's about the Chernobyl nuclear blast, which is also incorrect. The first blast created the Exclusion Zone, but it was a second event caused by the scientists (C-Consciousness) that led to the real Zone.

I think if they remade SHoC using a professional writer, focusing on the story, and restoring the original scope of the world, it would still be a breath of fresh air from the typical "OMG virus and zombies" games of this type that are usually made.

Cossacks was a good and fun game and I am sure the new one will be good as well but strategy games used to be fun back in 90' and early 00', right now fps are the most entertaining because of more advanced physics, beautiful graphics and what not. They should have started making another Stalker or like someone said a similar fps/rpg...

Didn't think the developer still existed. Like many, I really enjoyed the STALKER games (except for maybe Clear Sky) but I will have to agree that the title has sort of run its course by now. On the other hand I'm not sure if I'd play an RTS... I tend to suck at those.
