gs3 to razr m

My gs3 was droped on newyears and Im waiting for a replacement and went ahead and bought a razm m that will be given to a family member when my new gs3 comes in.

I don't know what the heck moto and google did to that cell but its slow and glitchy compared to my gs3.

The phone came with ics and was laggy and the chrome browser that comes stock on it is junk.How the heck did google and moto screw up the os on this?I updated to jellybean and the phone still is not even half as smooth as my old gs3 was on ics and nevermind how the gs3 runs on jellybean.

These phones have the same hardware basically and I am NEVER going back to moto after using the razr m for a few days.

Sorry for the rant but its the truth,aside from the phone being really nice looking and a good size it runs like dog crap compared to the os Samsung has put together on there gs3

I don't think Google has owned Motorola to be responsible for the Razr M. It's probably all Motorola's doing.

Though I think the Razr M is more of a midrange phone. Don't think it's meant to compete or replace a Galaxy S 3.

One potential issue with the RAZR M as mentioned is the 1 GB RAM.

However, I have the RAZR HD with ICS (same 1 GB RAM and same 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Plus) and it runs OK. Not as fast as the Tegra 3 - lags a bit, but I'm told it smooths out somewhat in Jelly Bean.

As for Chrome, that's Chrome, and Google's baby and the overall Android browser standard. That's why I've said in other threads that Google really needs to optimize the helluvit. I think the interface is fine though otherwise.

Overall though I still prefer the RAZR experience, because I don't like TouchWiz.

How is the read/write speed of the internal storage of the Razr M? I've seen some of these be pretty slow and possibly be a source of performance issues. Since it's a cheaper phone, some of the internal hardware may be cheaper too.

Cant be any worse than the POS that is the Droid RAZR! Man, that phone sucks ass. Slow as shit, lousy battery. I personally use a SGS3 but I ordered a RAZR last year from work. I hated it so much that I had the job replace it with an iphone 5. And I am not keen on iphones at all.

The RAZR is the older brother to the RAZR M.

Both have a 540p 4.3" screen, but the RAZR M has a faster CPU, is way smaller, has a bigger battery, and an updated OS that's near-stock Android.

The RAZR HD is pretty much the same footprint as the RAZR, but with a 4.7" screen, and way bigger battery. The RAZR MAXX HD has a ginormous battery, in the same footprint.

Well, "Browser" isn't dead, and is in fact still way faster where it exists.

Google said they'd accelerate Android Chrome development and catch it up to desktop update pace/progress in early 2013, so it may be right around the corner.

Chrome has the best tablet interface, but the lack of full-screen is just as damaging to its handset usefulness as the performance stuff.

Dunno, but at least for the RAZR HD the interface for the microSD seems OK. I was getting somewhere in the ballpark of about 2/3rds of the CrystalDiskMark speed for my SanDisk Ultra microSDHC, for sequential writes of a bunch of 1 GB files.

Dunno how fast the internal flash's random writes are though. Also, I'd be surprised if the flash controller were significantly different between the RAZR M and RAZR HD, but then again I've never seen a teardown for these.

There's no standard android browser. Tbh whatever ships on Samsung smartphones is probably the most popular at the moment.

Well I installed my 64gb Ultra micro stick and the RAZR m does not support the file format like my gs3 did.it wants me to format it .

The stock browser on ICS on the old nexus blows the doors off of chrome and I would not recommend this phone to anyone over the gs3

It's little things like that that I like about TouchWiz. I can live with the garish icons and crappy launcher (both are easily changed with a trip to the market) but there's a bunch of functionality that Samsung crams in as well.

Chrome isn't the standard yet, the default Android browser is still around on plenty of new Jellybean phones, both HTC and Samsung ship with a customized version of it.

Both the stock browser and Chrome are Webkit based and are very similar so anyone who is coding specifically for Chrome is likely a terrible developer, although given how inept the vast majority of mobile developers are that's probably a reasonable assumption.

They need to hurry up and polish Chrome (half pun intended), because it's current state is kinda meh.

I miss browser on my N4, it felt much lighter and snappier than Chrome, plus I really miss the quick menu that it had. Kinda sucks that it can't be flashed to phones without rooting.

I used a Razr M for two weeks before I switched from Android back to iPhone. Went from Galaxy Nexus with custom ROM's to Razr M. Everything about it was snappy and smooth. Much more smooth than my Nexus ever was.

Real reason I switched was for the size and battery life. Battery compared to the Nexus was phenominal. That and the size of the phone was perfect. The speed of the phone was great too. I only noticed a couple issues with some of the more graphically intense games.

Ultimately I swapped it out for an iPhone 5 and don't regret my decision one bit. Battery is every bit as good if not a bit better and I'm really digging the lightness and thinness of the phone.

and have done it all with roms and kernals and been there and done that and a bone stock gs3 running Samsung touchwiz will blow the doors off the moto razr m in smoothness and web browsing,I could go weeks without even clearing apps with task manager on my gs3 and the thing would run smooth as hell.

Believe it or not I have used the GS3 a bit. Not near as extensive as the Razr M, but enough to not notice a huge difference other than gaming.

That makes sense. If you run a lot of crap on the Razr M and leave it in the background then it may lag because of the 1 GB RAM, as compared to the Galaxy S III with its 2 GB RAM (in North America).

Some games though are quite memory intensive, so they can cause a phone to hit that 1 GB barrier pretty quickly.

Otherwise they should run at the same speed, because it's the exact same CPU in both of them. Like I said my RAZR HD runs fine with occasional lags, but I should qualify that to say the same lags existed on the Galaxy S III in 4.0. (I haven't run the S III in 4.1 so I don't know how it feels in 4.1. JB 4.1 only started rolling out a few weeks ago here. I haven't run the RAZR HD in 4.1 either, since it's not due here until the end of Jan.)

I personally don't game on mine at all. I don't install custom ROMs either as it would be a total waste of time for my usage.

I don't have anything installed on this razrm m and using it the way it came out the box.the hone screens lagged a bunch on the stock ICS ROM and improved a little once updated to jellybean.

The gs3 just runs a lot smoother and I can't wait for my replacement to come in.

I'm returning this cell tomorrow as I bought it full contract price and none of my fam wants it now and are getting gs3s.

Possible you got a bad unit. I've seen it happen. While I'm not doubting your experience was forgettable I'm just providing a flip side to my experience being spectacular. Battery life, speed etc. Lacked in games but I didn't game much on my Android phones. Just simple stuff that wasn't graphically intensive.

Either way the GS3 is a great phone. Great battery life for the screen size and very nice performance. Just a bigger phone than I want.

That's odd, my wife and I got a GS3 and a Razr M the same day, and I use her phone for all sorts of things. I really did not notice a difference in how it ran.
