GRUB Hard disk error??

Yesterday I started my PC without problems. The GRUB let me choose between Linux and Windows XP. Today I am only getting this message when booting. Doesit mean that the HD where Linux is installed is gone or the HD where the Bootfile is? What to do?

I am writing this from my notebook, so I can get the answers.

For any help and tips many thanks

Oh sorry. The message is: "GRUB Hard disk error"

I tried to boot the PC with the Windows CD, but I only come to a GRUB bash level ... no idea what to do now ...
