OK..........I sweeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrr I've asked this before but couldn't find it searching so here goes again.........

I finish my little spreadsheet & I need to type a note at the bottom. Problem is in "default" mode, it wraps allrighteeeee.........but takes the text completely off the page so that if I print it, it's not there after it finishes the standard 8.5" width paper.

Using Excel & Word repeatedly back to back would make you CERTAIN that the same person did not create both programs!! Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

When I format the cell & try anything, (or AltEnter) the sucker wraps within the tiny cell & I've got 50 words of text goin' down the side.

TIA (I'm gonna go grab a beer)

I think it's user error, and I could help you out if I could understand wtf you're trying to say.

Your first probem is posting in Off Topic.
Need to be in the software-apps section.

Use a footer to make notes on the bottom of a page. Use the Print Preview option to check it.

Have you tried entering your note at the bottom of the page as a footer in the Page Setup?

Ahhhhhhhh.........newly "Lifer".........that explains the mental block you're experiencing........ (har har)

Click in a cell & start typing..............Words wrap, but not at the dotted line which indicates the end of an 8.5" piece of paper.

Try to format the cell in anything other than "default" & the cell limits text to its own width.

That help?

FWIW, this is in Office '97 & has nothing to do w/ the 1024 character limit I googled.

JW,

No I haven't. I've been thru this before & there's a quick solution, but search me if I can remember it right now.

It's pretty much with all things in Excel.............memorization is key! (Spend all your life memorizing the shortcuts in Excel, then slick Willy will figure out a way to talk your way thru what you want the damn program to do.........well, in the year 2010).

;)

I'm not sure I understand your problem exactly, but here goes...

If it's a "little" spreadsheet, then maybe you want it to fit on a single page. If so, I'd first highlight the cells I wanted to print and then go the file>print area>set print area. I'd then go to file>print preview to see if fits. If not, click the Setup... button and select Fits to 1 page(s) wide by 1 page(s) tall. That should get it on the page. You can also click on Margins to adjust them some if you want.

Good luck!

Well, thanks guys for your efforts, but those don't work either.

To get an idea of what I'm talking about.........

Open Excel & start typing in A1 and just type away. Make sure your text wraps at least one time.....(so you'll see 2 lines of text in the doc)

Now, try whatever you can to either get it to "wrap" within a standard 8.5" wide paper........*OR*........set the print area to make it happen.

If you've truly typed 2 lines of text without making ANY setting changes.........your text should run off the page.

***IF*** you right-click the cell you started typing in (in this case A1) and select "format cells" and then 'font' and tick the "wrap text" box, your text should run all the way down the page. (looking like a newspaper column......not what we want!)

Selecting the print area works........BUT........ only by "shrinking" everything to one page. (also not the desired result)

Hope that explains it better. (???)

that's how it is supposed to work dummy.

It is a spread sheet, not a word processor.

If you need that much text in a single CELL then merge them.
