I come home from a grad party yesterday, and my dad tells me he found this great deal for a computer for my brother. I'm 16, my brother is 12. I ask him the specs, he tells me,

P4 1.3 Ghz
256 megs of PC800 RDRAM
20 gig Hard drive,
Geforce 2 32 meg vid card,

GRRR!!! My current computer is a p3 500, i have no money to upgrade as of right now, and my brother is getting a computer nearly 3 times faster than my current one! ANd he's not paying for a good portion of it!

I love it how parents are so fair.......

For a small fee we can have your brother taken care of and then your parents will have more to spend on you.

so... give your PC to your brother, and you take the new one. Explain to your dad that you need the extra power in that system, and that it would be ocerkill for your brother. :)

It was my dad's decision, I tried to convince him to get an athlon, but he decided against it. My comp i wanna build will have no intel, only athlon.

Wish i could, my system wouldn't support anything but the vid card and the hard drive

I could even hide it, but the thing is, RC5 on p4's suck.....

Awww, your brothers computer is faster than yours :(
Poor baby. I wish my daddy went out and funded a computer.
Want to hear a sad story? Ill tell you, the difference between your processors, isnt even close to what Im running right now. p2-300mghz. Deal with it. If you want something in life, go out and do it yourself, get a job, and stop complaining about free sh!t. I cant remember the last thing my parents bought for me.....

i do have a job, i'm not complaining about "free sh!t" as you call it, cuz i pay for all my stuff. I payed for my computer 3 years ago, when i was in 8th grade because i had a job, i took the interest to go out and get cash, i mowed fscking 50 neighbor's lawns that summer to buy my computer. And now my parents are basically handing my brother this computer he won't use. Maybe next time before you come into my thread and give me this bullsh!t about how i should get a job, you should check to see whether or not i do have one, because i do.

Just hide it. Who cares if it sucks. Or build him an athlon system.
Can you build a computer? Why not tell your dad that you'll build a computer for less (or pay me money and I'll do it) and from the moeny that you save him on this new system, ask him if he can upgrade yours as well...... makes sense right? He was going to spend that money anyways...

I see your dilemma and I wish you luck in whatever your dad decides to do.

Back when I first built my second rig, my dad was really happy (yes, I built him a computer, funded by my own cash...when I was 16, now I'm almost 18).
So anyhow, I'm in the middle of upgrading it right now, and he's whining that it's not working (waiting for processor in mail).....so I'm like "I paid for the fr!ck!ng computer in the first place, and now you're whining you dont have something for free????"

Parents these days ;) ;) ;)

Have you talked to your parents about this? If you really want to change the situation, either get them to read Anandtech Off-topic or talk to them about this.

Yea thats true kris, if you can convince them this time around then you'd save then a wazoo of moola, You'd save them a ton just getting a t-bird that goes faster than a 1.7 p4 and dirt cheap crucial DDR! Just give them some reads about how much the t-bird is better and they might change their mind.

That or send him a fake ebay admin email warning him of the violation of code 354 section 3 amendent 12 reading "All selling of old michigan post cards must paypal $1000 to redwingsguy@msn.com" and I can give you the money or use it to order ur parts for you!! haha

I tried to convince my parents for the longest time that i could save them like 400 bucks by building them a comp, but they "don't trust me" and plus my dad's like that anyways.....Oh well, I'm saving up to build my own, I'm halfway there....damn insurance....but it will be better than the one my bro got, i just don't know when i'll get it....lol.

mmm....crucial ddr.......

Pat, jer's grad party was fun, the food was awesome! hot dogs and chicken fingers, bahaha
