I was making this hole in this piece of metal and the drill bit broke in half.
The half that was left in the drill slammed into the palm of my hand...
Suprisingly, it did'nt hurt very much. I soaked my whole hand in rubbing alcohol and put
band aids on there... this sucks.

And I bought a new set of drill bits today... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

BTW, I don't remember the last time I got a tetnas shot... Is rubbing alcohol enough to kill any
germs from the drill bit drilling into my hand? The last thing I need is an infection.

it did'nt go in at a 90 degree angle... kind of went in at a 45 degree angle.
It went in far enough to cause alot of bleeding and look gross. The point of entry is where you
have a line in your palm so its going to be a bitch to heal

And I thought it was bad when I stuck my palm with an icepick.

Advice for the day: Be careful when making a colandar out of a coconut.

Wow, I can still see the scar...

Ugh... I feel for you there.

Better get a tetunus shot anyway just to be safe. 2 seconds of pain in thsi world is better than an infinity in the next.

Man, you needed that like you needed a hole in your... hand. ;)

Seriously, why take a chance? Get a tetanus shot.

I love Big Lots :p

But yeah, it's better to get a shot than to risk getting an infection.

It is always safer to get a tetanus shot. They last for about 8 years. Should be good for the next time you step on a nail.

Go to a clinic to have it looked at if you don't have insurance - it's a lot cheaper.

BTW, how did the drill bit go into you hand? Were you holding the metal part to be drilled? If so you learned a painful but important lesson. Always have the part locked down - never in your hand (it tends to slip which is why the bit broke in the first place).

tomorrow you may want to pour some hydrogen peroxide on it to make sure it cleans out the beginning of any infection, and get a tetnus shot :p

alright folks.
just got back from the med center.
I got a tetanus shot. I barely felt it...

When the doctor asked me what I did to clean the wound, I told him that
I squeezed a gauz pad soaked in alcohol for 10 minutes, he thought I was
nuts. He emptied a whole bottle of saline solution on it too.

He told me that although alcohol kills bacteria, it also retards the healing
process. He was saying how saline is the best stuff...

Well, he put a bigass dressing on my hand and here I am...

BTW, NFS4, after the drill bit broke, I busted out my titanium bits to finish the job while
I was squeezing the gauz of alcohol... I probably should not have bought the cheap bits... oh well...

If you are going to use hydrogen peroxide, make sure It's not too concentrated. I remember I put hydrogen peroxide on a wound and ended up with a chemical burn on top of that wound. It looked like Kentucky fried chicken.

MisterT I pity the fool who drills a hole in his hand :)

On a serious note, you should read the directions on most OTC stuff. Almost all OTC stuff specifically says not for use on puncture wounds, follow the Dr's directions and use saline solution.

I bet that high torque DeWalt went thru that wimpy flesh in no time flat. It did mine when I drilled a hole clear through my finger
