This is absolute total F-cking B.S. you must seek retribution, who the bleep do these people think they are, I'm so mad I could spit and it's not even happening to me.
Still I want vengence, do not take this lying down! Oh and good luck.

They cannot take your keys until your lease is up, by giving them to them they can trash the place and say you did it, take it to court and stop paying asap, they screwed you bud!

Happened to a friend of mine too, either get a lawyer or pay the fine. Apartment owners are all about making money, no matter how shady.

here is their idea of fine, i pay rent until they get someone in the apartment then i have to pay them an additional $400.00.

up to that, i was agreeable, but them treating my like a second class citizen is just unacceptable.

Tell them no, you will continue to pay rent per your original lease agreement, and if they don't accept that, then THEY are breaking your lease and that leaves you with no obligation to them at all and hey, let me read my contract here to see what damages you might be liable for, Mr. Apartment Manager person...

you have to live in the aprtment while you pay for it. Chances are it is in your lease.

edit: this is actually a law in MA. You are not allowd to rent an aprtment and leave it unoccupied.

Lease breaking fee != subletting fee. If he pays a least breaking fee, than AFAIK he should be in the clear. Only thing I can say for sure is that there is no way on earth he should be paying for an apartment that management took back the keys for REGARDLESS of who they're showing it to or weather or not they have a renter.
