so im sittin here just watching my computer slow to a crawl and then come back to normal. so i open up task manager and watch my memory usage for firefox. well, as i watch it drop down to 50000K mem usage i then proceed to watch it climb all the way back up to where it is now 116000K mem usage.

i know there is a way to set how much memory to use, and i know this is how firefox was designed for cacheing pages, but what is the workaround to not allow so much to load?

Which version are you on? I've had quite a number of tabs open, but am fairly certain I've yet to see it crack the 100MB mark.

Well, in effort to crack the 100MB barrier, I had to open 4 windows and 32 tabs. I'm now sitting at 109MB.

all you have to do i believe is keep opening tabs, closing then opening a new tab to a new site and the memory increases. that should skyrocket you up quickly.

You should be able to free it back up fairly quickly by minimizing then restoring Firefox. Or try Ram Def XT.

yep opera rules

however the mem useage is highly dependent on what JRE you have installed, it uses more mem ore with the JRE 1.5 installed then it did with the 1.4.x JRE

my Firefox is all ****** up. I have 2 firefox processes, one that doesn't change using 83,336 K and one using 34,460 K. I have, GASP, 2 tabs open. The 2nd process was well over 120,000 K before I minimized.

Yea, FF can mess up. Sometimes I wonder why I use it. Maybe I should go back to Maxthon someday. But the auto fillin for passwords is just too useful.

is FF's auto-fill-in better than IE's autocomplete somehow ? IE has it ya know ?
