I dont get it, my wife tips high all the time, like $10 on a $30 tab, so last night we went to applebees cause it was late and they were the only place open, the guy was a flake and didnt get one thing right the whole time, but he was one of those over apologetic types, anyway, the food sucked, was wrong, took too long etc.

Instead of the usual $10 she would have usually left, she only gave the guy $8 on a $30 tab

Me and my dad sat at an Irish pub/restaurant in Manhattan the day after St. Patrick's day. Anyway, the waitress didn't get our drinks, took way too long to bring the food (and I usually don't care for the waits) and was generally just brushing customers off with an Ok, yea whatever... When we told her we'd like the drinks we ordered she said "Oops, coming right up..." and we didn't get them at all anyway
At the end, my dad told her to bring us the check but discard the 2 drinks we didn't recieve... She was looking at us all funny, like we were still suppose to pay for them! x2
Then, she gets the things off the table next to us and starts talking to them about us indirectly, like "Some people just dont understand, it's the day after St. Patrick's day, etc..."
Ummmm, whaaaaaaaaat? Are you dumb, it's the day after and your restaurant wasn't even half full... x3
No tip, of course.

Agreed. I feel the same.

If they are exceptionally bad, I leave them a penny.

No tip, of course.

Yeah, can't stand anything more than someone complaining about how hard their job is, how much more work they do than their coworkers, blah, blah, blah.

last month, i had to take a cab from the airport to my parents' house in florida. i know the area pretty well, having lived there for 17 years, so as soon as i got into the car, i told the guy exactly how to get to the house. i'm not sure if he was messed up in the head, but he not only didn't go the right way (he went way east when he had to go west), he went slower and was in the wrong lanes whenever i told him where he had to be. i was seriously telling my husband that there's no way that i'm giving this idiot a tip. unfortunately, though, i didn't have exact change and didn't want to piss him off ("hey, can i have $3 back?") so i gave him the money and ran. i am still angry about it.

Totally backward. If everyone got paid daily on how well they did their job, all companies would be much more efficient.

the one time i did not leave a tip:

1. never came by to check on us
2. had to hunt her down to take our order
3. never refilled our drinks, in fact we had to do it ourselves since we sat next to the bar
4. had to flag her down for the check
5. she never came back to pick up the check
6. wound up taking the check up to the hostess and leaving.

i was tempted to leave a penny to be meaner. it was like we didn't exist.
