/begin rant

Today I was planning on leaving work early to prepare for my "valentine's weekend" (because my girlfriend lives a few hours away, we couldnt do anything on wednesday). She is showing up at my place at 5pm. So i was going to leave @ 3:30, right? I tell this guy i work with... and all the sudden he is acting like he is my keeper because my boss is out.

I said to him: "FYI, im leaving at 3:30 today, gotta go home and prepare for.... (above mentioned)"

he: "Did you just ask if you could leave at 3:30?"

me: "No, I said i was leaving at 3:30... rumor is, you are leaving as well."

he: "Well, I have a few more hours racked up in the past few weeks so Jon (boss) allows me to be a LITTLE flexible on my hours"

me: "So your saying I should stay till 5"

he: "yes, but i'll be a little flexible if you stay late on monday"

me: "I stayed late this past monday, if you really want to get into it (till about 7)"

he: "lets not start counting hours."

F-YOU buddy, obviously your the one counting the hours. no one notices that I am here before everyone almost every day (1/2 hour at least). If work is important and needs to get done, I stay late. I dont take long lunches, (max 1/2 hour when we are allowed one hour) giving me an extra hour worth of work day, PER DAY. I put in more than enough time per day working my butt off for this company... I hate not being appreciated by my co-workers. My boss loves me, thats good, but when you only work with about 6 other guys, all ages 24-27, its important to be respected and appreciated. GRRR.
Needless to say, no matter what this jerk says, i'm leaving at 330.

/end rant.

Just say, politely, "I'm sorry but I have a prior commitment and I am leaving at 3:30."

Then do so.

Ignore them, but perhaps mention to your boss what you are doing so that your co-workers can't go to him and complain first.

we have a guy just like that where I work. It's called HYPOCRISY. It's O.K. when I do it, but it's abuse when you do it. That kind of crap really pisses me off!!

Actually, I'd disagree. As much as I would like to be respected by my co-workers, if one of them started acting like they were my boss or "keeping track of my hours", I'd tell them in no uncertain terms to go to hell--in my boss's presence.

Give an inch, people like that will take a mile. Gaining respect from those morons just means you've given in to their pathetic "routine" and/or let them walk all over you.

One of my coworkers (an accountant) got on my ass for showing up to work at 10:30 AM several days in a row. I left around 4:00 PM a couple of those days. I had to a couple support calls with an hour round trip of traveling on those days I left early. She didn't know this.

When I was walking out she said something to the effect of "must be nice to have your schedule",

I replied: "when you have a manager call you at home at 7:00 AM on a Saturday morning because his email doesn't work, then you'll understand how nice my schedule is".

Haven't heard a word out of her since.

you say he is a co-worker? he is at the same level you are? why is he concerned on when you work, and when you leave? This is a issue between you and your boss not him. If one one of my co-workers ever stuck their nose into my business like that he/she would get such a tounge lashing they would think twice before they would do that again. I think you were right in telling him that you were leaving at 3:30. I would call that just common curtisy toward your fellow workers. Let us know how it works out.

screw that sh!t. i say you leave at 3:30 whether he likes it or not. first tell him what Optimus said. say you had plans and bla bla bla. if he's still being an ass with you then leave at 3:30. whats the worst they can do? fire you? if they do end up firing you, think about this.........if you tell your girlfriend about this, she'll be flattered and will appreciate the fact of you going through so much just to go and see her. (ie: ONE HELL OF A WEEKEND FOR YOU BUDDY :D)

Why did you even say anything to the guy if he isn't your boss. Just leave at 3:30 and don't say anything else to the guy.

Hecubus: because it was a curtosy thing.. i just dont wanna take off and have no one know where i was going... I told another guy i work with earlier about it and my plans and he said "sounds good to me" you know, appreciating the fact that i was informing him, not looking for some kind of fault in my actions....

then you just solved your problem. even if he does bad mouth you to the boss, just say your part, and be sure that you dont have a bad sounding voice at the time, (more of a relaxation voice after the wonderful weekend :)) and explain to your boss your situation and how he was being an ass with it.....im sure the boss will understand. (are you cool with your boss?)

Citrix: he's about a year older than me...

Danny: I already sent an email to my boss, simply stating "Hey, when you get back I'd like to talk to you."
yeah, he and I are cool, mostly because he knows what i do for the place.

loos: I work in east hartford at a webdev co.

Well Intake, sounds like you already let at least one person know, and he didn't have any problems, so then if you just leave at 3:30, you're not just leaving and not letting anyone know..

I would just leave at 3:30... honest.. and just talk to the boss on monday..
