Here's an idea, stop slacking off. That is a horrible GPA.

If you can't do better in undergrad, what makes you think that you will in Masters classes?

horrible is the 0.8 GPA that my friend had last semester

now THAT'S slacking off

So backdoor it.

Take classes anyhow, just do not properly enroll in the program.

After you have show yourself to be "worthy", then file for admission. You will have the track record to back you up.

That's exactly what I'm doing. I need an A- average to get into grad school for what I want to do and I'm a B+. Add to the fact that I didn't do so well in one of the major classes they look at and I figured my chances weren't all that great. This year I'm doing research and coming back to do some grad level classes to show them that I can do it. I don't think I'll have any problems getting in after this year.

Not everyone pursues degrees that seem to attract those incapable of finding their way out of a wet paper bag, intellectually speaking.

Yeah, I was about to mention this. Ability-wise, film majors are some of the most incapable people I have ever met. How many of your classes do you have where the professor will respect even the most asinine opinion (The Incredibles is a metaphor for 9/11, apparently, according to my film prof from last year)?

At least the op is taking courses where it's possible to be wrong.

You may want to consider a few lighter classes to pad your gpa. I remember a few classes in undergraduate that really screwed mine. Physical chem which was a class of 8 students and a prof that gave 3 Ds, 3 Cs, 2 Bs and one A, which really sucked because everyone in there needed it for their major and needed at least a C. And Immunology which I found interesting but didn't need and he curved the grade to make a 92% for A- and 95% for A. Because of these I always recommend to any aspiring med students that if you need a course for a grade find the easiest version, then audit any interesting courses that you want the experience from.
