I just got the Extreme Edition Terminator 2 DVD. T2 is one of my favorite movies and this particular edition is very nice.

One of the selling points of the DVD is a High Definition, widescreen version of the movie that is included in the second disk. It has a 1928x1080 native resolution, so it should look absolutely awesome. It should provide a taste of how HD-DVDs should look when they become mainstream in a couple of years.

However: THE STUPID DVD HAS A STUPID REGIONAL COPY PROTECTION THAT ONLY ALLOWS IT TO BE PLAYED IN THE US!!!!!!!!!! And since I live in Mexico, I'm a promptly screwed! You have to connect to the net to watch it and download a security certificate everytime the disk is loaded...

My DVD is 100% legit. I payed the equivalent of $45 US for it. There's no version for my region (or any other region whatsoever, for that matter!!).

This is stupid...this is the kind of stuff that just punishes legit costumers. Pirates can bypass this kind of stuff so easily, while making life impossible for those (like me) who shelled the money for the product but can't watch it due to stupid, arbirtary exclusion like this.

*sigh* No choice but to find a proxy server and hope that works... :(

Hola, usas la programa "dvdshrink" para copiar el dvd a tu computadora. Entonces, crear una nueva dvd sin la proteccion copiar con una dvdrw.

that would defeat the purpose of watching a dvd at its highest quality. plus he would still have to connect to the internet to watch the 1080p feed anyway.

Won't work, already tried it.

The HD-DVD is not in conventional DvD video format (the typical Video_TS regular DVDs use and the ones DVD shrink and such can copy) but rather in some sort of ultra-compressed WMP files. The disk is a DVD-ROm, not a DVD video. Here's a little info about the disk.

So it's not a problem of the DVDs region per se (I can watch region 1 DVDs fine), but rather of WMP (necessary to watch the DVD) blocking my access because it determines I'm using a non US IP address.

And like someone said, using DVD shrink or something like that would compromise the image quality. Disk 1 already has a regular DVD -Video with the movie I can watch just fine. I just want to watch it in HD on my new LCD :(

1. It is not a an HD-DVD. It is a DVD with WMV-HD DRM files on it.

There are ways around it, but they are REALLY complicated and I want to keep my membership here so I won't talk more about that.

That said, since it is a legal copy, I can show you a way to register it by proxy. I don't know as to the legality of since they let someone sell it to you.

technically, you would be registering it from an unauthorized or undefined market, but since you did give them money, you should have access to it.

Unless the mods object PM and I'll show you how to register it.

Yeah, you can't rip the HD version with the normal rippers.

Very sad to hear of this kinda crap, but it doesn't surprise me unfortunately.

Normally, yes, for DVD-video. I have my PC's DVD drive set to region 1, though, since most movies I watch are imported from the US, anyway.

But since the disk is a DVD-rom with WMP files, it doesn't really matter.

Aye. It uses basic windows media DRM and contacts a server for a temporary key.

what REALLY pisses me off is that the files on the BMW films CD that I BOUGHT expired:|
