I've downloaded the Ubuntu ISO, the ISO burning utitlity, but everytime I go to burn it, the dialog box says the CD is unusable. Whats' up? I tried using Roxio but the computer doesn't detect it when it boots up. What am I doing wrong?

Yeah make sure to check the md5 before burning the image.

MD5Summer is a good windows md5 hash checker.

From the place/directory where you downloaded the iso, there should be an MD5SUMS file of some sorts. Just open that file with md5summer and specify the iso to check the validity.

Dang, no wonder noone uses Linux, its a pain in the butt to load apps? I need the "Dummies guide to adding new apps to Ubuntu"

Odd, I find 'apt-get install mplayer' much simpler than going out searching the Internet for some random installer.

Sadly ubuntuguide.org hasn't been updated in a year so while the instructions are still fairly accurate things like package names and such have probably changed. You should probably check out the official forums at http://www.ubuntuforums.org/ instead.

I heard EasyUbuntu does pretty much the same thing, but is more compatible with different distribution types and it doesn't touch your sources.lst file for apt. Both tools really do help improve the ease of use with Ubuntu.
