Grrr, guess it's new fender time after a hit and run last week :( (pics)

So, yeah... my car got it's ass kicked, and Ican't tell exactly what it was that hit it, just that it's nasty, and it looks like they took a grinder to it... it's bashed up, but luckily they managed to keep the damage just on the fender, and not on the bumper as well, although it gets close.

Pics:
poor car 🙁

Any suggestions as to where to get a fender? I've found them online for $105 unpainted, if I could track down a prepainted one I could save a bundle... I go to and engineering school ,so there is no shortage of mechE's to pop it on for me 😛

Any ideas?

It is bad, but as you know could have been a much more expensive proposition if they had messed up the bumper cover.

The biggest problem as I see it will be matching paint on the sliverish color. 🙁

now, I ask this.. does that even look like a car hit it? I mean, it has distinct parts where the pain is scratched in lines, maybe a truck bumper?

There's no such thing as a pre-painted part. If you're looking for cheap parts, try a local salvage yard and/or aftermarket parts distributor.

You get what you pay for.

Looks like it was definitely a truck, or at least any type of raised vehicle. If it was a car your rim woulda been all messed up.

Well, what I meant was that I checked on ebay and found some stripped parts in mint shape, and those were cheap (low demand I geuss because they are prepainted). I was hoping that there would be some sort of online scrap yard or something.

Hmm, with body filler you aren't supposed to use it for dents more then 1/2" thick, right? I know you're making a joke, but I'm thinking until I can scrap together some cash, this could work...

just leave it like that until it's fixed.

I found that when my car got hit by some woman I got pulled over 4 times in a 7 week period for stupid crap. Finally when I asked a cop what the deal was he (truthfully) told me that cars that are newer, but got in an accident that's not getting fixed "screams" that the driver doesn't have insurance. anyhow... fyi... but our cops here in atlanta/marietta/kennesaw/GEORGIA are total arseholes. I know, the whole 'to server and protect... blah blah' but they all are just jerks.

Alright, so, if I fill it in (and because I'm a novice I'll just fill it flat and not worry about curving it like the real deal), prime it, and get the large area touchup paints that the dealer offers, will it look really ghetto, or will the results be acceptable at least? I'm not looking for showcase quality, but I'd like it to not look worse then if I leave it like this

It will look ghetto if you just fill it flat. Better leave it as it is if you plan on doing it ghetto style.

Well, I've been looking online for a tutorial, and all of the guides I've found are just for very minor dings that you can pull most of the way out... nothign for the bigger stuff.

Would I want to apply it in maybe 5 different steps, sanding each one down after drying so that I have something to adhere the next layer to? There just isn't much documentation Ican find for big old damage like this here.

I'd buy a new fender. That thing looks UGLY! With body filler, you'd still need to paint it. Touch up paint ain't even going to come close.

Dude, are you that dense? You cannot just fill that in. Someone will shut your door and the chunk will fall out. Take it off, pound it with a really big hammer and put it back on.

Several layers will do. Seriously, it's hard work and not worth it.

Yup, that's what it looks like to me. You could pound it out after taking the fender off but you'll never get it to look nice.

Lol, yeh, duct tape...
