I just put together my mobo, power supply, and fans earlier a couple days ago, i had no processor in / no ram / no IDE or PCI devices in....just the mobo and fans... i turned on the Power supply to the mobo and the fans turned on that i had hooked up. They were running fine. Now a day later, power is getting to the board (because the LED on the board is light up [green light]), but the fans are not going (they just twitch 1 time when flipping on the power supply). I hooked up the power switch button etc...tried turning it on w/ power switch.... doesn't turn on the fans ... any comments that could help me? I would sure appreciate it alot.
thanks,
-Dave

I guess it really doesn't matter, but why in the world would you want to do such a thing? Turn on the power with nothing plugged in? Very strange. I'm sure others can explain this better, but the ATX power supply gets its signal to turn on from the motherboard. There's something on the mobo that also helps regulate power. Somebody help me out here! Anyway, the little one twitch thing is normal on some mobo's when you plug in the power cable. I believe that twitch, and the green LED you talk about, is from the 5VSB (5 Volt Stand By). So now you're saying you have everything installed and when you hit the power all you get is a twitch?

Wait! Do you mean the switch on the back of the PSU? That switch does NOT turn on your computer, just the PSU and "yes" you will get a little twitch when you turn that on. You still MUST have the case power switch plugged into the mobo (read the manual to see where it goes) to turn the computer on. Just make sure you have all your components plugged in..... 🙂
