Grr, XP folders

How do I get it so when I am in a folder and right-click, select arrange by, it shows me the nice default with arrange by name, size, and modified. My stupid music folder keeps giving me the huge list that shows crap like song title, album, etc, but no "modified"

Right-click on one of the column headers and you should get a listing of all the possible columns. Hope this helps.

What do you mean by column headers?

Column headers are the gray column names like Name, Size, Type, Date Modified, Date Created, etc. You'll see them when you're in Detail view.

OK, I guess I can arrange it that way. I still want to be able to arrange that way just with the rightclick and arrange box. Its like it defaults to a list especially for music files, but I want the regular list in there. Is there no way to do that?

If it defaults to a list and you want to have a detail view for all your folders then all you have to do is set the detail view in a folder (any folder), go to Tools > Folder Options > View > Apply to All Folders.

I think I'm starting to get what you're saying now about the right-click menu. I think it varies depending on what view you're currently in. Also, try moving some songs to a new folder and see if you get those right-click menu options. I think there's something special about the My Music folder that shows a different right-click context menu. Hope this helps.

I actaully got it to do the right thing by creating a new folder and putting the music in there. But then I moved it back and renamed it My Shared Folder and it changed back to the music styled rightclick menue. Must be some hardcoded evil option like that. Those bastards.

It's all in registry settings. I don't know what keys to look for, but a lot of context menu stuff is in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
