Grr what's this trend about replacing all the show hosts with young jerks

Ok, we have a version of Wheel of Fortune here in .dk that's been on for almost 10 years now. For the past 5-7 ish years it's been a really good host who appealed to everyone. Very intelligent guy, who had a desire for his job, was friendly and not a smartass to the people who were on the show. If people made a mistake he was always there with a comment that made him sound just a dumb as some of the people they get on the show. Oh, and he was about 50 years old.

Now, in order to match the big scheme and attract younger viewers, they've replaced him with some dumbass guy in the 20's, who's totally untalented and doesn't do anything than just stand there and say what needs to be said - nothing more.

It's so sad to see that competent hosts / reporterts have to be replaced by some young idiots just because they're getting 'too old'. I mean, people here just have to have been 'on' once and they can get a job at some TV channel. People from the danish version of survivor are everywhere in the media without having an ounce of talent...it's just because they're popular and young.

GRR! :|

Prod,

That's why I love American TV. Young, old, whatever you may be, if you don't pull in the ratings.... YANK! You're gone!!!!

It's all about ratings, and with a bazillion channels, there's usually something else to watch.

Edit: I love to bet on which new shows will be canceled every season. WooHoo! Normal, Ohio bit the big one!

Yeah that does suck. I think it might be a little different here in the US though (on game shows at least). Pat Sajak & Vanna White have hosted WoF for as long as I can remember. Also Alex Trebek with Jeopardy and everyone's favorite--Bob Barker on The Price is Right. I think that in America, those hosts have been with the shows so long that the networks would be afraid to lose all their viewers if they replaced 'em with new guys. Jeopardy just wouldn't be the same without Alex (and neither would Celebrity Jeopardy on SNL!). We also tend to keep around old, haggard newscasters (Barbara Walters, Dan Rather, etc.). I don't know why it seems to be different here, but I think it's because Americans get more attached to the people than the show itself. Maybe in Denmark (and other countries) it's the other way around.

Do other people in Denmark feel the same way about the change or are people pretty happy with it?

Trebek is here to stay alright. Do you know he's an ameteur orchestra conductor? He guest conducts lesser known orchestras sometimes. One negative thing about him is that he's Canadian. 🙂

No! people are outraged about the change of hosts. I doubt many young people watch WoF already, and I seriously doubt this will make any more people watch it. That's the really sad thing about it

The only negative thing about Alex Trebek is that he's a pompous prick. He acts so smart while he has the answers right in front of him!! Wow, those are some brains, Alex.

I've also thought it is amusing that Vanna is still walking up and down in front of the board when she no longer has to actually turn the letters, just touch the screen, which is incidentally a job just as easily done with a switch. 🙂
