Grr. Stupid customer.

Came to pick up his computer after an out-of-warranty repair. PSU blew up, took out the mobo. PSU was out of warranty, so I had to get him a new one. Fortunately, I just happened to have a $70 power supply kicking around that came with another customer's chassis (an Antec. It wasn't sufficient wattage, so I had to pull it and use a 550w instead). So I decided to give it to him for $30 - 58% off the normal price. The motherboard was in warranty, but according to the warranty agreement, which he signed, he would be responsible for return shipping and any other fees assessed by the manufacturer. That came to $8.55 for shipping. So he owes me $38.55. I've mentioned this no fewer than 20 times, every single time he called me to ask if it was ready (I also told him it would take several weeks), I gave him the f'ing tracking numbers. While UPS showed the mobo still en route back here, he was asking if it was ready, even.) Jesus H. Christ sometimes I wonder why I got into this business. Anyway, he comes to pick it up and "forgets" the money. And his checkbook. Thus, I had to use the line "Give me my $38.55 or I'm taking back the power supply and motherboard, and you can keep the rest." Can't wait to see what he comes up with next.

You should have just given it to him in good faith.

Unfortunately, good faith doesn't pay bills.

You might want to tap the needle on your sarcasm meter...I think it might be broken.

Far to much hassle for the amount of money you're getting paid imho...

It's the initial profit from selling the machines that rocks. Repairs are annoying, but fairly mindless. Slap in the diagnostic card, see where it gets stuck, insert all other components into test board, verify that they work, return the dead bits (or charge them if it's out of warranty with the manufacturer)

what is this diagnostic card you speak of?

A fvcking work of art. Best $30 I've EVER spent.

Unfortunately, Newegg doesn't seem to sell them anymore. It's called the Soyo TechAID. Soyo part number SY-TECHAID (bahahha) Link

Now you just have to find a place to buy it. It uses the hexadecimal BIOS status codes to see the last thing attempted during POST. It also includes a fairly worthless PSU tester (worthless because if the voltages are that far off, the machine will likely not even try to boot enough for them to come on)

Thanks So. These people just don't get jokes like they used to. 😀
