do it out of spite...I usually only reformat when I am so mad at my computer that it feels good watching the status bar progress

Ghost is your friend. You can try almost anything when you know you can get back to where you started if it fails. I always Ghost before installing any new software.

I buy drives in pairs for any machine I build for myself. That's what Hot Deals, coupons and rebates are for, and I always include a mobile rack. I got my two 80 GB Maxtor drives for $32, each, including tax, after rebates, and I can Ghost it in about 6.5 minutes. 😎
