I just spilled half a glass of iced tea on my logitech g15 version 1. it had replaced a g15 version 2 that i spilled iced tea and water on.

good news is that i am typing on the old g15 and it seems to be working just fine, so hopefully the version 1 will work ok after it dries out for a few days.

the version 1 wouldn't let me type some characters and it just kept flickering on and off.

any ideas on getting it cleaned up or do i just have to wait for it to dry out?

You don't leave anything other than distilled water or relatively pure alcohol to "dry out" onto electronics. Get a gallon of distilled water (usually less than a buck a gallon at Walmart and similar - we keep a couple of gallons on hand at all times) and rinse the tea out thoroughly. This process should have begun immediately as NOT to let anything dry out. If you warm the dist. H2O first it'll work better at getting stuff out. Then rotate with shaking to get the majority of water out of the nooks and crannies, then hang it up to dry with one corner at the bottom to get the most thorough drying.
. If you wish, you can follow a reasonable drying period with a rinse with 90+ % isopropyl to remove any remaining water. Shake well with rotating to help remove most of the alcohol and hang again - the alcohol will absorb any water it finds and still finish drying thoroughly and quickly. High percentage alcohol is also available at Walmart in the drugstore area. The higher the ambient temp., the quicker the drying (assuming a reasonably low ambient humidity).
. Worse to worse, you can start the rinsing process with warm tap water. Follow the steps for distilled water, and while it's hanging you can go out and get the distilled water and alchol and start the process over from the beginning when you get back. If you have reasonable mechanical skillz, you could disassemble the kbd to rinse it as you will get more thorough rinsing and drying and you can check that all the tea has been gotten rid of.

People with above moron level IQ are supposed to be able to learn from their mistakes. ;)
Perhaps a toddler's sippy cup would help limit the spillage in the future. :D You must be buying your equipment with OPM...

i sent an email to logitech to see if they'll replace it.

i plugged it in again after it had some time to dry. the lights come on and stay on but several keys are not working.

I think's its probably a bit late for what you mentioned, zepper. plus this keyboard has that LCD display in it, so not sure if putting water into it would be a good idea.

yeah, i mentioned the sippy cup myself in the last post when i had this happen.
what sucks is that in all the 15 or so years that i've used PCs, this year is the first time i've spilled liquids on my keyboards - and it's happened like 3 times within a few months!

Distilled water should not hurt anything, nor should alcohol. But to be safe, you could disconnect the display while rinsing. User error is not covered by warranty...

Well that's nice. You RMA them a kbd that you damaged yourself which will contribute to price rises for the rest of us - not very ethical, eh?

if they're going to allow me to rma it, why wouldn't i? i fail to see how it's unethical if the company allows it.

+1
I am very saddened to see how many people will not stand up and take responsibility for their own actions, just because a company is overly generous doesn't mean you have to abuse the privilege IMHO.

It's unethical on your part, not theirs.

If you told them the reason it's not working is that you spilled tea on/in it and they still accepted the RMA, then it's on them. If you didn't...

This is like when I worked for GE examining why things failed under warranty.
95% of the time it was the consumer that made the item fail and were just trying to get something fixed for free.
I saw one projection tv that the owner had sent in three times to be repaired that had a failed convergence board. All three times the same damage.
I was asked to look at it to make sure it wasn't a design flaw.
Turns out the families son liked to use the slots in the top used for ventilation, as a bank for his pennies and they were falling on the board shorting it.

The family was pissed when we billed them for all the freight and repair charges.
Companies do investigate why something failed, they don't just toss items in the trash.
So if logitech bills you after the fact don't complain.
