all started when I noticed some great on my right front wheel.. realized my cv joint boot was prolly torn.. wasn't clicking/making any noise so I ordered a new cv axle and kept driving on it.
After maybe 100 miles of driving I started getting an "oscillating whirring" sound that went away if I turned the wheel to the left. going straight you could barely hear it, but turning to the right it got louder.

I assumed it was the cv axle just wearing out from no grease.. I replace the cv axle and the noise is still there. I noticed I've got a torn boot on a lower ball joint on the left side.. but I couldn't feel any play in the wheel (when jacked up)

Wheel bearings maybe?

could be your bearings, i'd take it to a tire shop and let them check it out. could be serious, could be an easy fix

I had an old POS '88 Camery with this same problem at about 190K miles. Turned out that I needed the entire wheel hub replaced. Not that I know much about cars, but that seemed to fix the problem for me. BTW it was just like you described except worse. Going straight it was noticable. Turning left it went away, and turning right sounded pretty serious.
