i left it running 3d mark 06 and when i came back the temprature was 125 C (reported by the OSD function of atitrayy tools.) apparently the fan was not running. i have fixed the issue which i think was caused by a clash in the settings of atitray tools and ati tool.

aynway i was worried what should i do .i think its working fine. screen is ok. even 3d mark 06 run fine. what other steps can i take to ensure it keeps working good.

ok well. i changed the thermal compound cuz temp were going as high as 110 on load WITH THE FAN ON.

i am really impressed with this core. it withstands a 120 C + temperature. that higher than the boiler point on water for god sake. i am really amazed.

What can you do??

Don't ever do it again.

Sounds like you got lucky on that one boss. I'd feel bad and put a better cooler on it just because I felt bad about getting it so hot.

yeah in the first post i was looking for advice the rectify the damager done. i've already figured out one thing i can fix (the thermal pad was in such a bad shape).. any other things i should do.?

your right i got lucky that it was not damaged but i am simply amazed that the core can take a temperature of 125 and live to post (and even be OC by about 90 MHz on the core 30 on the memory)

ya , if the thermal pad was messed up , I'd get rid of it completely and put some good thermal compound on it. Arctic Silver is good stuff , but you can't be sloppy with it on a GPU.. you have more leway on your CPU because of the room from the pins....I've heard of people actually causing short circuits on video cards because the compound has metal in it , and carries a current. Just be clean with it , and keep it on the heat transfer surfaces , and make sure it doesn't squish out when you put the heatsink back on. Good luck.

Heh, I forgot to plug the fan in on my 6600GT one time. It got to about 121C while playing NFSMW. Still works fine now :)
