Surprised the Chechens did not start their offensive earlier at the start of the Ukrainian conflict.

And originally the Chechen independence fighters were secular but now the Islamic Jihadists tend to dominate the conflict.

I don't think that's correct, I've heard many references to pre-Mongol Chechnya as having it's own religion. I forget what it is, Vainic or something like that. Islam just found fertile ground there, it didn't conceive a new culture of resistance and war on it's own.

I've read that war is the only thing that Chechans worship, but then that was from a Russian. Reading up on that area it's easy to see why that perception would be popular though. Chechans remind me of the samurai in a way. Not for some analogous views on duty and honor, but because it seems like fighting was all they wanted to do. A Chechan might be wearing rags, but his weapons would always be of good quality and ready to go. Like the Apache, fighting is practically their raison d'être. These people said fuck off to the Mongols. Twice.

I was wondering what Ramzan was going to do after Putin's statement of confidence in "the local guys," and was betting on it being pretty noteworthy. Yep.
