Growing/maintaining a beard

This is probably the dumbest question posted a place where dumb questions are asked on an hourly basis... How do you maintain a beard? I'm a hairy bastard so the actual hair grows in quickly.. But it gets kinda messy and ugly in a few days - any guidelines for maintaining a good scruffy look (think brit-pop band member not redneck) without getting too bummy?

Use a straight razor to shave your neck and keep it clean and then a good beard trimmer & guard combo to keep the rest of it "under control".

Thanks for the info! what's a guard comb? and how much do they cost?

A beard/mustache trimmer has guards like you're used to at the barber shop. I have a panasonic one, I forget how much it was but it wasn't expensive. Guards are just how far away the blade is from your hair
