Group Policy or something like it for Win 98

I have the task of securing a bunch of "new" Win 98 machines from their users, we need to disable their ability to change computer settings, all they should be running is one program. This is so easy to do with NT OS's but I'm a bit stumped on how to do it with Win 98, are there 3rd party programs? Or is it possible to have the computers check against a server that establishes the policies? (The computers are networked) Thanks for any suggestions!

It's just as easy in 9x as in windows NT. First the tool you need is poledit (the one specifically for windows 98) It can be found on the 98 cdrom in Tools\Reskit\Netadmin\Poledit.

If you are already using policies for your NT computers via the NTCONFIG.POL file saved in your login scripts directory you can do the same thing with 9x computers that are part of your domain. Just save the policy for 9x as CONFIG.POL in the same folder and all the 9x boxes will pick it up during login.

Hope this helps.

I found this site: http://www.zisman.ca/poledit/ Which had pretty good information about windows 95, which is sufficiently similar enough to Win 98 it seems. I'll find out how to do the network thing, but it's not that important because I think once we setup one comp the settings will be copied over to the others when we Ghost (which I must figure out how to do as well).

Thanks!
